Out of food, water, and ammo, you (the last remaining of your group) leave your underground bunker out of desperation in search of salvation. You will start out weak with low sanity. Your bunker is littered with the corpses of those you once knew.
Sanity has been tweaked to be more sensitive to light and any sanity-reducing events (darkness, enemies, etc.). Your lantern also drains more quickly. Use your lantern wisely. Not a jumpscare-fest.

If you were to DL the original v1.1 CS, you would be given a CS that started halfway through instead of at the beginning. This was terrible, because anyone who DLed this version and played it, experienced the best parts in the worst ways (no lantern). And those that somehow completed it, would most likely not want to re-play it with a working version. It's been spoiled for them.
If you downloaded v1.1 before Saturday, May 6th, you have the original copy that doesn't work properly. Currently, the CS being offered by Gamefront is still the original copy. Please DL from moddb's mirror. Go ahead and DL from the Gamefont mirror, as it's faster. If you do not start out in a bunker with dead bodies, you have a broken copy. The fix is below.
TO FIX IF YOU HAVE ORIGINAL v1.1:
1. Go into the Dark Seclusion folder and find custom_story_settings.cfg
2. Open with Notepad.
3. Change "Level_3.map" to "Level_Beginning.map"

Thank you for the good sports that won't rate this mod based on the original v1.1. I've tried my best to not let this get out of hand, as a months work may have been ruined by a simple mistake. Play on, and enjoy.

Actually this map wasn't that good but it's not bad. The first scene with those haunted things and music kinda scared me in the first place, good effect. But it was very short and I could enter the exit door without completing quests for it. The design of the map was okay, the monsters appeared very randomly so it was not a challenge. What I liked though was the oil and sanity challenge, very nice :).
I managed to break one part of the story and got 1fps that was scary as hell 'cause there was a strange noise at the same time

well this level design was not my taste, really, but this easy 'runofoutofoil' thing was nice with this mod, also the creepy atmosphere throughout the levels led me to say: this is a good custom story! by the way the lack of furniture and stuff was disturbing in the big areas.
Didn't really like the story line, but that's just my opinion.
Some of the maps felt very empty and too big - there were also some clipping issues.
The lighting was nicely done but because some of the rooms were too big the atmosphere the lighting created went mostly unnoticed (e.g the Library, Upstairs).
The custom music you used in the library was awesome, I really liked it.
I also liked how fast you use oil; it forces you to be more conservative and strategic.
Good CS overall, I enjoyed playing it.

Good story, you should fix some of the textures in the Main Hub area. The music was great, I was running out of oil and potions which made it tons more challenging than I had expected. On the Library, before I grabbed the key on the table, I stacked up 2 chairs and a box so that incase a monster spawned after I grabbed it, I could climb up ontop of the bookshelves, what do you know, grabbed the key, monster spawned, climbed up and made it out. You should fix that there. And on the flooded offices, I walked along the edges of the wall when the water monster showed up. Fix that, too. Other than that, great story.
Glad you liked it. Rather than preventing someone from doing what you've done, I'd like to embrace it. Cleverness rewarded you. I like that.
