Dark Interval is a restoration/revision mod that lets you play Half-Life 2 as it could have been. Using Valve's early concepts, we're creating new maps, models, textures, and custom dialogue. The mod is released in episodes, the most recent being Dark Interval: Part I - an intro chapter to the bigger story.
The famous cut creature, Hydra, will return in Dark Interval Part 2. In this video we show some of the progress we made on fixing its AI routines and overhauling its visuals.

The 2003 clip you're showing is using animations, not the dynamic bone movement found in the leak. Valve have never showed the dynamic Hydra in anything official.

Don't worry, I had a similar issue. Read it the same/similar way as you did. Good thing I rewatched this video a few more times before realizing that they were saying that the actual npc doens't use pre-authored animations. ;P
I actually read it multiple times and stopped the video. I just got home from work so that might be it.
Love it. It seems like Valve could've used this in the final game had they utilized it differently.

Oh man, the Hydra was (at least to me) iconic for HL2 before release. I was disappointed it didn't make it into the release build, but after all this time I will be able to play against it anyway? That's awesome!
Will you make it like an area restriction thingy or a strong NPC?
