Call of Chernobyl is a free-play sandbox mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. : Call of Pripyat created by TeamEPIC. Testing some changes to night time configuration. I wanted to make it so stalkers have a hard time detecting you as you do them but didn't want to make them dumb. It's very hard to balance AI to be believable at night.
I'm pretty close to having good settings. Stalkers didn't notice me when I was still. But I was ambushed by a bandit because he saw me go up the hill. Overall this test went better than expected.

Maybe you could make NPCs a little more reactive to sounds (when you're following the bandit, he's not noticing the "bush" noise).
Just tweaks, this is already a huge improvement of the behavior.
