An endeavour that should be complimented by not only our small S.T.A.L.K.E.R. community, but modders around the globe. A project that started as map-pack which grew into a full modders resource and base for role-players, free-play enthusiasts, weapon pack lovers and of course die hard stalker fans alike.

Call Of Chernobyl is the embodiment of what I think "modding" should be. Team Epic spend their time and effort in not only creating something, but polishing it, adding onto where others would've stopped. Initially, as a map-pack, all what had to be done was smart terrains, the spawns and no other gameplay changes. As the year went by, not only the gameplay, but the engine, has been optimized and added onto.

Now, I gave a 10. Lets give some argumentation as to why I gave this mod a perfect score:

Engine optimization: 10/10
- FAST loading times due to ALL of the cleaning of unneeded repetitive code by Alundaio. This mod with all its goodness runs better than vanilla CoP on my old Q9550 / 4GB DDR2 RAM / GTX275. I am enjoying DX10 with sun-shafts ON and near 70FPS at some times, with little dips below 60. The performance speaks for itself.

Compatability: 10/10
- The creators of CoC have not only envisioned their "modders resource", but they have also provided the needed tools to allow modders to fully decode, unpack and change whatever element about CoC. A fully upgraded SDK with level files, tutorials and videos on how to do whatever, all within their own free time. Team Epic deserves nothing less than their name, Epic.

Gameplay Mechanics: 10/10
- New mechanics are EVERYWHERE. From in-game commands for the (previously unused) num-pad keys, changing of squad size, spawns, probability of mutant spawns, frequency and of course my favourite feature, artefact degradation, this mod has it all. CoC 1.4 offers so much to not only the modder, but also the player. Some argued it became "stale" and "boring" after a while, but this definitely switches up the gameplay.

Graphical fidelity:
- Call it placebo, but CoC looks and sounds so much better than vanilla CoP. Not only the graphics themselves, but the overall feel of the game feels more polished. From unique soundtracks to, albeit by another team, honest and powerful weapons, the gunplay, a vital organ of any game and mod, feels "up there".

All in all a 10 out of 10. I can't add anything more, since this review was revisited on the 26th of September, 2016, and I have yet to really get into the whole 1.4 version of the mod.

But I am a VERY pleased fan. Alun, Darryl, Bangalore, Neko, Borovos, ExImIeR and 2C, WELL DONE. Thank you, really.

COC made me more successful in business, increased my attractiveness to women and made me a more powerful lover.

This could happen to you too. Chances are good it won't, but at the very least you'll have something good to distract from the crippling depression that comes from not living my life.

Best S.T.A.L.K.E.R. freeplay experience I've had. Can't wait to see what others build on top of this excellent mod.

Fantastic, a great platform for future mods and is highly enjoyable to playthrough as it is. Great work by you all at Team Epic.

It's one of the milestones for the scene and something we have been waiting for since SoC release eight years ago. Nuff said :)

As a modder's resource and just for strolling around, watching the sights and plain relaxation in the entire COMPLETE Zone, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Chernobyl CAN NOT BE MATCHED!

All Stalkers, and myself, cannot thank you enough for the most amazing work compiling all of this and making it all work together as well as it does. You have given birth to the absolute basis for the future of the original and true S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Universe well into the 21st century!

.. and that future, looks so incredible delicious.. oh the projects that will become.. some quite sooner than most expect ;)

Modders.. in your marks, get set.. GO CREATE SOME AWESOMENESS!

A huge variety of levels merged together with improved A-life and AI. Must have for any true Stalker Fans.

This is not Lost Alpha, and you should witness it.
We didn't ask much. This is the sandbox mappack that the community deserve. We don't want a bad story/lore. We don't want locked maps and paths. We don't need blind defenses to make this good.

Stalker Call Of Chernobyl Is the game where YOU make your story. You want to be a loyal duty soldier or a fanatic monolith soldier or a loner? You can be any faction in this mod and there is no missions no holding your hand 24/7 THIS is the mod for every real stalker fan out there and if youre not playing it now then GO AHEAD AND DOWNLOAD THIS MOD!!! And best of all its very stable and I only had one crash and I played for 6 hours already

Call of Chernobyl in its current state is very well done. One of the highlights of this mod is the improved a-life. Mutants and stalkers roam across any and all maps, providing some truly crazy situations. One example is when I entered the Dark Valley from the north, appearing just outside the Bandit base. I began to attack, and the Bandits came out to meet me. What I DIDN'T expect was another group of Bandits to come in from behind out of the map I had just come from. And THEN began a psy-storm, and every one of us ran to shelter, waiting a good few minutes before continuing our firefight.

Another similar case happened when I had come from Limansk to the Red Forest, over the draw-bridge. Military were stationed on the other side, so naturally I took them out. As soon as the last one dropped, an emission began. Of course, as soon as I ran for cover, some more Military that had been patrolling in the forest tried to take shelter with me. Nothing a shotgun couldn't solve, but it was made all the more intense as the blowout raged outside.

And when you first start, survival is quite the challenge, more so than in vanilla CoP and even SHoC. My first game I chose to be in the Mercenary faction, so of course my starting equipment were just a couple of sausages, an aid kit, a fistful of bandages; and of course my first task was to invade an enemy territory. I got my first AK from a Bandit that had been killed by my buddies outside the Merc base. After that, I was scrounging for weapons and ammo wherever I could, most of the time the guns were half broken, so even when I chanced upon some of the higher-end weapons like NATO rifles and the Striker shotgun, their use was limited. Plus NATO rounds are hard to come by anyway.

PLUS, you don't start out with a detector. So the riches you get immediately from artefact hunting are off limits until you happen upon someone with a detector. But I was fortunate enough to come across a dead exoskeleton zombie with a Veles detector not half an hour after I killed a Dutyer with an Echo. From there on, I was able to find expensive artefacts, sell them, fix my gear and even upgrade them. So right now I'm doing pretty well for myself, but the initial start up is quite the struggle.

There are a few complaints I have. Occasionally the game with crash, but that's a given with the first releases of such ambitious mods. There are some strange bugs, such as how the Spas shotgun is super accurate, like, more accurate than a rifle. I've literally sniped mutants from across the map with my shotgun, WITH pellet shells, not slugs. It seems the spread on the pellets is broken, but they're still pellets, so when you hit something dead-on with one shot, you may as well be pumping five AK rounds at once. But honestly, I find it too amusing to want fixed, so I'm content to wander the Zone with my disgustingly OP Spas-12. Makes chimera encounters a lot easier than normal, I can tell you. Oh yeah, you don't 'unlock' strong mutants like you do in CoP. You can walk right into the Army Warehouses as a fresh pup and find one of them ready to maul you. Luckily I managed to find a stash with a grenade launcher and save my *** from a pseudogiant attack. It's the crazy chances that make this mod so much fun, whether they're in your favor or against you.

For those like me who ******* despise the vanilla weapon models, SFX, and ballistics, you have the wonderful opportunity to download Original Weapons Renewal 3 compatible with CoC. Let me tell you: it's nice. The guns look natural, they SOUND natural, and they don't fire like paintball guns anymore, and to me it makes all the difference.

So if you just want a big, free roaming mod that combines levels of all three STALKER games, don't hesitate to download CoC. It's one the best ones to come out in a while.
