Good to have something to read in the lonely, rainy nights in the wilderness of the Zone.
I missed PDA wiki, especially notes about artifacts, because seriously still after all those years, I dont remember which artifacts occur in which anomalies xD And I always need to check where I can find specific artifact -_-
Oooooh yeah!, This mod is better day by day. But, Dou you have thought about put Folklore too?
Great, id love to see the encyclopedia and folklore make a return as well!
Flavor lore is one of the things I loved most about OGSE. Reminded me of Dishonored and Doom 3 in the way that they made the world so much more immersive.
In the future, they could even expand on it further by making reading certain books begin sidequests, Skyrim style. Like for example, you find a journal of a dead Stalker in a random cave in a rainy night, and reading through it, you discovered that he stashed a very rare artifact (it would be a brand new artifact and the only way in the game to get it, and it would be the only one.) The journal tells you where he hid the artifact (not in the same map you found it in) and also depicts his descent into madness brought on by the artifact's side effects.
It would be pretty cool imo.
What if it can be enhanced like this; all (actually assigned) items' description readable, once one is obtained.
For instance; one day Marked One takes a "Bread" for the first time in his Zone life, and PDA now has Items>Descriptions>Bread, along with his beloved "PM" or "Knife", and such. It'd never be fun as they are just regrouping of texts, but it will make the Zone more living, vivid. Even I'm thinking of further; certain addons have "combine-to-make-new" like Craft addon, so if crafted items have descriptions of what items needed to craft, this can be more of... Huh, these are just my imagination, or say, hallucination. (But if it's not hallucination, I'm pretty sure of more vivid Zone.)
Will the encyclopedia work like in OGSE? Or will you have all entries from the start?
Initially only the "Features" category will be available in 1.5 as it's the most important.
Everything else will be added through later patches.
Updates to the encyclopedia will probably be released early through an addon instead of delaying them for each and every patch though.
Good to know, though I was referring to the mechanics of the encyclopedia. OGSE had a system where you had basic entries form the start, you built up entries on artefacts, anomalies, places e.c.t. by looting bodies, supposedly taking the data from their PDA. I wish to know how you plan for entries to be implemented in-game, be-it picking them up as you go along or having from the get-go, thanks.
We have something very similar, the majority of articles will be locked away when you create your character aside from important ones.
There's a small chance you'll find a memory stick in the inventory of a body (like how you find their PDAs), which you can use to unlock a random article.
They only spawn if there's still something that remain to be unlocked.
There'll be other ways to unlock articles too, though we haven't added those yet.

Seems pretty cool. What about taking notes or even having a diary in the PDA?
I was thinking something along the lines of the community submitting short stories which are voted by the community and put into the encyclopedia by the team.
Lots of possibilities.
