Description

I created a "new" lingering smoke building. I've always enjoyed adding smoke to battle-torn cityscapes. now that I've started working on a Bandung Sea of Fire for a Dutch vs Indonesian Revolutionary Army scenario... I wanted to create that atmosphere of flames and chaos.

I tried using triggers and existing visual effects, but this consumed so much memory that it would lead to the game crashing. then I realized that all I really needed to do was change the models for two of the default destroyed buildings and I could get the same result with far less memory usage and triggers.

I was working on some new maps for the Burma campaign and wanted to try and recreate a dangerous, but effective bomber attack that was used by Japanese aviators in WW2. I just used some of the stock V1 explosion animation and combined it with the new lingering smoke buildings.

the only downside to this is that I can't change terrain textures once the game is loaded.

so, on the far left-hand side you can see some new scorched earth crops with the new visual effect.

I plan to use this technique for two missions:
Scorched Earth and the Encirclement of Kiev
[which takes place east of Kiev, and does not include that city. it's a pre-requisite for moving on to the Kiev mission]

the Bandung Sea of Fire.
[I realized that I could recycle the Japanese armored attack mission from 1942 for the new 1946 scenario]
