It's better to cunter-punch than to die.

I love the torpedo effect, but weren't Connie torps blue?

I'm guessing they're holding back the Blue-white torps as this is the first Constitution so she wouldn't have her more iconic torps yet. Or, in this particular screenshot, the relevant tech was not yet researched in the match being played. Regardless, I would like to know as well.

Let's be honest - colour consistency for both phasers and photons was not TOS' strong suit. Phasers were red, blue, even green once or twice, and torpedoes were purple more than once.

For now the Constitution's torpedoes are red. They may change to blue in a future, perhaps for AotF Vol.2, but we have yet to even think about that.

They had a bit of trouble in the broadcast version but those inconsistencies were fixed in the Remastering Version and I know an instance of green was plot specific (a stun blast from Orbit in "A Piece of the Action"). I don't recall seeing purple torpedoes, though.
With the remastering and the appearance of the Defiant in "In a Mirror, Darkly" it is now accepted that the Constitution class of TOS has blue phasers and blue-white torpedoes. That doesn't mean that your torps can't be red if you guys want them to be, you guys are pre-TOS after all.
I've seen an explanation of the different colors used as the Phaser crews finding the right frequency to get the most energy past the targets defenses. Like the rapid re-modulation seen in TNG "Best of Both Worlds." Similar could be said of the torpedoes, I guess.

The Reasoning for Red photon torpedoes is a General consistency with ALL era's. Photon torpedoes are show to be Red or Orange in 90% of the cases.

The only exception are some parts of TOS and the Motion picture. In everything else they were Red or orange.

So in order to achieve a general feel that "red" means photon we decided to make the TOS photons red.

Also the same goes with impulse engines. In some parts of TOS its show to have blue impulse engines, while Discovery shows red and the Kelvin is also Red.

So we decided federation impulse engines are red.

Understandable, truly. Just a little disappointed is all.

Is there a possibility for that particular style to be an ability for the Connie in AoTF2? Like some sort of shield penetrating torpedo? That would make the blue-white torp line up with it's appearances in TOS and TMP. (Although why they would have used such a thing on an asteroid in TMP eludes me)

Just an idea brought on by a bit of nostalgia. I do love the work you all have done and I don't mean to come off as overly critical, demanding, or whiny. If that is the case.

Discovery also uses the white-blue TOS Style torpedo (complete with the original sound)
