This article is about the content I was doing last month.

Hi there!

Last info update was 31 day ago. Probably you read my comment about 3-6 months work ahead - that's probably true. Weapon selection is over, I've rechecked all weapons. Some textures were changed or have been edited by me to make them seem as a part of one big pack, some models were replaced.

"Lynx"

Basic SVD with integrated custom PSO and poly-like furniture.

Snap 2018 11 16 at 18 45 38

Honorary PMM

STCOP's PMM with added text.

Snap 2018 11 16 at 18 45 04

LR300 and SIG550 now has a short version of M203. This helped to remove bug when addon didn't show up and you could see only the grenade, also, the bug with ACOG was fixed. Thanks to PYP.

Snap 2018 11 16 at 18 48 11

ACOG has a darker lens and texture to fit weapons more.

Snap 2018 11 16 at 18 47 51

PSO texture has beed changed too.

Snap 2018 11 16 at 18 49 24

Now SVU, SVD and VSS has a detachable scopes, only Nimble's uniques has integrated optics. This is arguable gameplay decision, but this will bring new fresh situations in the game.

Snap 2018 11 16 at 19 15 00

Thanks PYP, for fixed sights on this SVU, future engine tweaks and weapon animation edits.

Equipment and upgrade weapon icons were made anew (in 7th time). Different angles of some weapons for bigger icon itself.

ui actor weapons

Upgrade schemes will be edited a bit too. As I mentioned before, there will be no Contrast\Nightvision upgrades for rifles with integrated optics, since all helmets have nightvision. I plan to use this cool stuff by TGP96. Nightvision_2/Nightvision_3/Black&White for 1st/2nd/3rd generations.

Since you have noticed, there are many changes in gameplay. So, that's why I came to the decision I was thinking of, there is a dilemma: I want to make Vanilla+ for people, just to play an updated game, as I wanted once, but couldn't find any without drastic changes, and you can see, that I make drastic changes (for somebody scopeless SVD is a drastic change), so, there will be 2 versions of ABR MOD 2.0.

Light Version will have: engine tweaks with all benifits and updated graphics plus audio. Some NPC visuals will be added. AN 4.04 will be replaced with AN 2 to give that autumn feel and keep vanilla hardware requirments (probably I will make instruction how to make work AN 4.04 on ABR MOD 2.0 Light Version).

Possible changes is that deadend nightvision upgrades, since NV can't be switched off in the day, this makes weapons useless.

Full Version is what you've seen before with enhanced spawns (I've cut them a lot in the last day before the release), more accurate NPC's, more spartan upgrade system - no additional ammo, if you will find unique 45\60 round mag AK - you will praise it. Also, I'm going to try to edit all.spawn for adding unreachable stash fix - for Light Version, and change stashes for Full Version. Since there will be no freebies for achievments any more, you will have stash coordinates - go and take the loot, if you can.

Weapons will be rebalanced, pistols will not be useless, but they will be effective strictly in close combat. Automatic pistols probably will be so from the start. NPC's loadouts will be more soviet in the first stages of the game, so foreign guns are rare and valued more. About Nimble's uniques, this fancy Zoom\Detector upgrades probably will be accessible from the Yanov, since after reaching Pripyat you have about 2 hours of gameplay and that's all.

There are many plans, that's why I'm pretty certain about 2 version of mod for now, but I don't know for sure will Light Version be released earlier.

More about the content, I've managed to reduce size of textures from Variation Mod from 200mb to 80mb by deleting unused transparency channel and duplicates. Also, I will make some tweaks and make it more variable (zombies are in progress, I just show what I have by now):

Snap 2018 11 16 at 18 24 08

Snap 2018 11 16 at 18 24 36

(I just realized how creepy this dude is, those eyes... look wrong)

Snap 2018 11 16 at 18 23 27

Also, there is a plan to make more variable faces for living stalkers. NPC's visuals is the next stage of work after weapons.

The texture tweaks. The most noticable example: old texture had fabrics from loner's seva.

Snap 2018 11 16 at 18 35 20

I've turned that texture into this:

Snap 2018 11 16 at 18 28 45

Looks like no challenge? It took about 2-3 hours to make it right. I polish the content as any developer would do.

About the sound, I was thinking about composing new ost, but Sclera's Music fits atmosphere so good. So I'll probably will compose track for Lab x8 and Underground (I plan add there more action in Full Version, not mere 2-3 tushkanos).

So, the current progress. Weapons are on the finish line, will be finished probably this month. Then I will edit visual's textures, then there will be configs edits. Progress is on, stay tuned.

Best regards and have a nice weekend,

ABR.

LOVE the Weapon list showcase pic, really...! <3 I have a question though, it may look like it in the weapon list showcase pic but I have to make sure regardless... Will the Mosin Nagant be in the mod as well? If so, will it's respective scope be available for it as well? ( I.imgur.com It would be very nice if the side lines of the scope sight act like it does in MGS3, though I suppose just the scope itself would be enough, though I hope there can be a magnification for it for various ranges at least. :3 ) I'm asking as I am a MAJOR Mosin Nagant fan and it would make me SOOOO damn happy to know that the legendary rifle is indeed going to be in this mod. ^^

Thanks! Yes, it will. That big pic with icons is a final weapon tier, Mosin will be and will have detachable PU scope, same to SKS. PU will have its standard 3.5x magnification.

Alright, but will said scope have the classic Mosin sight, like the one shown in the above pic? Just wanting to make sure is all, but the confirmation of the Mosin Nagant being in it just REALLY makes me excited for it then. ^-^ Thanks for answering my question and no problem. :)

Me and g_m_e tried to keep scopes realistic.

But I've added red center to make optics more useful.

P.S. Don't like much PU scope personally, its reticle looks so ancient :) But Mosin is pretty cool, I've tried it on mercs. That was fun.

ha ha YES! It IS the Mosin Scope, thanks so much for the reassurance, really. ^^ Though if possible i'd like a variant without the red dot, making it more close to the original and, if possible, MGS3-like. ^^ Youtube.com (When zoomed in the two side line retract a bit, very neat indeed. ^^ )

Well, this is s.t.a.l.k.e.r. mod, and I never played MGS3 :) I'm pretty happy with scopes for now. But I'll think about removing center since it's old scope and has no reticle backlight in real life.

Ah, I see. Just saying that people like me prefer the classic Mosin scope sight is all, and adding one with magnification to it would REALLY make Mosin Nagant fans like me very much happy, due to the sheer firepower us fans of it know it can have in the right hands. ^^

Thank you, I REALLY do appreciate since us Mosin Nagant fans love the rifle for good reason and it proves its old but still VERY potent usefulness to this day, and some, like me, would likely still carry it due to that fact, even when one acquires the handy Lynx rifle from Nimble. heh heh :)

Welcome, I like constructive comments, since they can bring inspiration. PU scope probably would look more vintage and better without dot, so I will try and see how it is.

P.S. I didn't know Mosin is so popular.

It is to those who love it like I do, it all depends on those who like it as much as I do I suppose, I think it's a lot since the rifle has earned its legend to those that know it of course. :)

I'm really glad your polishing and removing unnecessary bits like removing unused duplicates for example.

Yes, it really helped not only for saving space and ordering stuff, but also I was able to see what I could fix there. And since X-Ray is an old engine, I try to optimize resources somehow.

This is looking great man, seriously. From what I'm seeing, even the full version will still have that good stalker atmosphere, and that's how you sold me on the first version. It sucks that the only "good" overhaul we have is MISERY, so thank you for your work!!

Thanks for support! I try to keep vanilla, but I'm spending 2nd year of my life for this mod, so I want to make something to get it more interesting to myself as well. Some people may not like changes, that's why I plan to make Light Version. May be I'll make my version as an addon, don't know yet.

Does the F2000 with the integrated GL have a new model?

It has OWR3's model. There is no any other FN2000 with GL. At least I didn't find it.

F
No really, the OWR model sucks.
I remember that in NA 5.1 there is a F2000 with the GL integrated..
Maybe that could work?

Also for the Nimble's Striker it could be nice if the gun has an optic on it.

May be, but FN looks like in real life and I didn't found any mentions about protecta having scope. Saiga has more modularity - the scope and even silencer.

This looks amazing. I had CoP on an old laptop and loved it, what really stood out was a strange and beautiful, melancholy sort serenity to the zone, so I feel turning it into a hardcore survival/horror game misses the point for me.

Then again I still feel I could do with some tweaks and re-balancing the for the next run (this time with a modern GPU rather than Intels' integrated graphics), as in vanilla it's really hard to find a better weapon option than the AC-96/2 / AN-94 for most of the game.

I love the idea of detachable scopes for the sniper rifles, as it seems you're otherwise a bit ****** if you get charged at by a pack of dogs (better pistols won't hurt for a sniper build either).

What do you think of mid-range, semi-auto, high calibre battle rifles, like the SKS, FN FAL, H&K G3, Madsen LAR etc? Would they be OP for this kind of game?

Also, would using a shotgun and carrying slug rounds make it viable against bandits and zombies with assault rifles?

EDIT: I'm wondering about rifled barrels and/or chokes for shotguns as well now. I read that you can actually use buckshot with rifling IRL, it just results in a "donut" shaped spread pattern.

Well, stalker is more about melancholy for me too, but a bit of challenge is good, I like when balance is fair: if you can't kill that fast bloodsucker - just run away.

Balance is really difficult thing. I was looking into the vanilla loadouts and stuff, but ABR 1.2 was not so bad. OFC FN2000 was too much in the start of the game, but in vanilla you could access VSS and SVU from the start ot the game, so what's bad if you could access 60mag AK just buying it. Balance, I will try to make it fair and fun, a bit of challenge.

I have only SKS from the mid-range rifles you've described. SKS is more sniper rifle too, since it uses same ammo as SVD (Well, first prototypes had used, but I don't want to add new ammo type). I am planning damage based on caliber, it will categorize weapons.

Buck is usefull on distance about 30m in real life, if it is not some kind saw-off gun. Slugs will be better for hitting distant targets. For example Saiga can have PSO attached, so you can snipe (not very long though) with the slug bullets, I've tested it on zombies, pretty similar to VSS shooting - mortar trajectory.

In short, I want to make all weapons useful and fun. There probably will not be that RPG-like weapon tier when PM is piece of trash and FN2000 is OMG everything.

This is game in open world, so player need a goal to reach something, to have a cool gun because game is pretty short.

Well, dunno have I answered your question, but modding is very hard for me to explain and make, but I try my best. v2.0 will have changes, that's why I plan a light version without tweaks, if people like vanilla gameplay only, but I find it a bit outdated now.

It sounds incredibly hard to balance making all weapons useful and fun with while still having weapons to aspire to finding or saving up for, but I guess they can all have their places - at least the PM is light and has cheap ammo.

I found myself going back to the old AKS-74U for the tunnel to Pripyat - I guess I figured a more compact weapon made more sense there, then when it turned out I'd get lots of free ammo I switched to the AS Val, I figured all the solid cover would make the suppressor a huge advantage.

I'm totally happy with your response to my queries and ramblings, really prompt and clear, great to see you so engaged with the community.

Yeah, and the funniest thing is I didn't balance stuff yet. Still working on content. Also, there is some stuff in mission to fix.

Well, small weapons has better handle, and if you shoot like I do - via sights, that's important.

No problem at all. Positive community feedback helps a lot.
