S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly

Mod review

Has just about everything I could think of to make Call of Chernobyl better, and then some. The Anomaly devs took what made it's predecessors great (Call of Misery, Last Day) then cut out the fat and replaced it with muscle.

Truly an outstanding mod, with hundreds of hours of entertaining gameplay. In fact, at this point I'm kind of worried that STALKER 2 will not be as good as Anomaly.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Chernobyl

Mod review

An absolutely phenomenal mod. It brings all three of the STALKER games together into a cohesive framework for others to build on and polish.

As for the mod itself, 32 maps. More than one could ever ask for.

Not to mention the recent updates have been making it even better, and the updates are nicely frequent.

GMDX

Mod review

Hardcore mode: Hard as ****, but fun as hell.

Overall, the game adds a fresh take on Deus Ex. The features alone might not be enough to grab your attention, but the re-balance of weapons, limited use machines, and more intelligent AI does really add a lot of depth.

Overall the gunplay is mostly the same, but now many more variables are factored into executing a plan. There's more to the environment than meets the eye, and you'll need every bit of it to survive.

Pretty much everything except the story has been redone with amazing detail, and there is no sense of cheap deaths or rewards: everything is earned.

All in all, I think this mod deserves an 11, just for the sheer amount of work and thought put into it.

Brutal Doom

Mod review

This mod really shows how far games have come....and how far they have regressed. This game gives you the tools needed to form the plethora of gibs along the walls, ceiling, and screen you've always dreamed of. It also gives you all the tools to have at least a year worth of fun, even if the fun is overly gratuitous in the gore department.

But it really is the best kind of fun, isn't it?

Mix it with some other map-changing mods/tools and you've got yourself an even better year of ripping and tearing ahead of you AND your mates as you brave the depths of hell, and maybe some military installations while you're at it!

MISERY

Mod review

Let me tell a little story to express my opinion:

> Load the game. Takes for ******* ever, but eventually I'm in.
> Start off at the most godforsaken part of the swamps.
> Look around, and notice some zombies. "This must be the zombie farm."
> It's called a farm for a reason. I subsequently clear it out.
> Loot of the day: A nearly broken Sig Sauer with 4 rounds, 13 9x18 and 6 9x19 rounds, two breads, and a can of tuna.
> Feel good, seems like a notable achievement for Misery 2.2.
> Find some loners, kill said loners for loot.
> Loot of the last 10 minutes, of which 8 was spent in loading screens: A nearly broken Sig Sauer with no ammo, 2 AK74s, 22 9x18 rounds, 2 rounds of 5.45x39, and some rotten meat.
> Probably should make my way to Sadovorovisoisorovisk or whatever the hell it's called. I just call it "Good Boat".
> Meet beard. Browse. Feel shame for not being able to afford anything.
> Meet Owl. Browse. ****** at him for high prices. Notice AK going for 20,000 RU and Military outfit going for nearly 40,000.
> Notice that beard pays more for literally any item sold, and also accepts items with <98% durability.
> Dump what I can on Beard, accept "Obligitory 1st quest of CoP"™.
> I know the drill. Notice that radiation is off the charts.
> Better take a quick sippy. Stumble around drunk, fall off into numerous anomalies, instantly die, reload, and die again.
> Eventually pick up boat steering wheel. Climb out, meet the guy, give it to him, chase him, then stab him in the back far enough away from his partners.
> Get greedy and go back for his partner's loot.
> Attempt to snipe with my mosin nagant. Miss horribly, and find out they have perfect aim. Die repeatedly.
> Get frustrated, decide to deal with them after I get to Beard, if they're still around.
> Nearly at the boat, going along the hilly side. Stupid me, walks along the top of the hill.
> Pack of dogs sees me from burn farmstead. They run. Really fast. 12 of them.
> Get frustrated. Ragequit.

Mafia II: Reminiscence of the hype

Mod review

I do really like the damage and the new crosshair. However, I do not like the absurd amount of recoil with the weapons, and the in-your-face camera system for wall-hugging.

If you could create alternate versions of the configurations, that would be nice.

CS Remix

Mod review

From what I've downloaded of the mod pack, this thing is great. It encompasses all I ever really wanted out of Clear Sky.

However, two things keep this down to an 8 than a 10.

Firstly, there are no pistol ironsights. Those could have carried over from several other mods, and have made the mechanics more realistic.

Second, the ragdoll physics are a bit much. I've shot people with the birdshot and they fly about 10 meters.

That is all.

MYSTERY

Mod review

Very good job, the only qualm I have is that it doesn't encompass the content that that MISERY provides.

But, for what the mod does offer, it most certainly delivers.
