Hostage Situation 2: Electric Boogaloo
I had no idea you were still working on this.
Actually it is on Gametrailers.
These guys must just be sitting on their butts doing nothing. With that last update in mind I know they can't possibly have abandoned the game altogether... Yet the last three updates have highlighted nothing except redundant media appearances. Maybe it'll come out on Christmas or something. :\
A while ago I wrote up a little design guide for myself to follow on my own one-person mod, and it gives me a bit of confidence to see that the rules I established for myself are almost exactly like the ones you suggested. Thanks for sharing the experience!
I really don't like this. At all.
Incredible math skills, too.
"cs is allmost 10 or maybe more years..."
And if you aren't a modder, I can't even figure out what you're doing here. Noob.
Dammit Habboi, will you leave us alone? :P
Random tiling sucks, really hard. Nobody uses it anymore because it ends up not tiling correctly, and there's big obvious breaks in the textures where the brushwork was split up. It just doesn't give you enough control. However, Megatexturing in Half-Life? Heh, no way.
Heheh, I make these things all the time too. Very helpful, but I just hope you won't be sticking too closely to the boxy layout shown here...
Nice models, but I'd like to see some maps.
Yeah, custom built does not simply mean you selected the items and it was put together for you. I wish they'd be more specific, because the way it is now anybody who ordered a friggin' Dell can say that it's "custom". Instead of "made it myself", it should say "pieced together myself" or something.
You call this "the best out of the GoldSource engine"? Try harder, dude. Try harder. You obviously aren't aware of the high standards that recent mods like Poke646: Vendetta have set. I hate to burst your bubble, but this looks pretty bad compared to recent stuff, and even a lot of really old stuff. I'd suggest you start advertising your mod for what it is, not what you wish it could be.
Now I'll admit you've got some nice custom coding going on here, but you really need to get a talented mapper on your team. If you don't, this is just going to turn into another special effects based mod without any real content, but some flashy explosions.
Sorry if the screenshots and the video don't represent the final state of the mod very well, but that's all I had as a reference besides your description.
I was thinking for a minute that the scattered mainframes and cables running across the floor would be unlikely, but now I realize it's probably very accurate. To me, it signifies that this is indeed a temporary and hurried setup, not something that was well integrated into the architecture of the old facility, like you might expect to find in the Black Mesa labs.
Half-Life is dirt cheap now (about $10 on Steam.) You'd have to be hella poor if you couldn't afford that. D:
I thought that's what it stood for, but that wouldn't have really worked there, if it had been used correctly.
Looking for a summer release? Since wh... Err, I mean, I've always known that. Yeah. :P
Actually, it did use the original Quake engine. It was just modified to the extent that it looked nearly identical to Quake 2 engine games. Despite its visuals though, it's still technically inferior.
Yes, it looks awesome, and yes, that citadel looks weird. As I understand it, it's just borrowing off the main themes of HL2, and not sticking really strictly to the way things were originally designed. This is a good approach, because it allows you to rebuild things in a way where they'll actually work with the rather old Half-Life engine.
And yes, I do believe using content from Half-Life 2 is technically copyright infringement, but Valve doesn't seem inclined to intervene with any project unless it gets noticed enough. It's just not worth the effort, and it's not going to hurt them any. So basically, no Half-Life mod these days is going to garner enough attention for them to care. Also keep in mind that all content that's going from HL2 to HL1 has to be edited and drastically reduced in quality to work, so it's not directly stealing from them.
Anyway, keep up the good work. I'd say you could work on the textures a bit more, as a few like they went straight from being a photo to a texture without any editing involved. But other than that, it looks really nice, and your brushwork is very interesting and consistent.
Of course not, and you know it. Stop acting like some nub who asks if mods are dead all the time. :P
Hmmm... This only covers reskinning models, not modeling, or editing the actual shape of the model. It's a useful guide, but the title is a bit misleading.
This hallway is the ownage. Very nice work with the texturing and architecture. I especially like the inset lights. That door could use a frame, though.
Oh horrible looking rocks, how I haven't missed thee. I hope those things are temporary. Other than that though, it looks pretty nice.
Keep up the good work! :D
Finish already, dangit!
