Between Empires

Mod review

It's a great mod with tons (and I mean tons) of content, a great atmosphere, lots of interesting mechanics (the command system is amazing) and covering a period that's almost unheard of in M&B mods. There are flaws of course - a few bugs like Sardinian nobles getting stuck on what I presume to be Mount Etna in Sicily, a few troop tree or geography mistakes or some unpolished Native mechanics (try getting Wine from London to Jerusalem in 7 days without cheats). But these are issues that can be remedied and for such a large project it's amazing these are the only downsides. One of my favourites

Independence of Chile

Mod review

A very original idea, yet resonating with the classic Napoleonic warfare. Filled with new nations and an interesting combination of different factions, fighting against each other. The idea's superb, and definitely a 10 - even if it is not that well known in Europe or the US. The uniforms look great, and heavily vary from country to country, unit to unit. I cannot say how accurate they are, due to my ignorance, but they are really nice. The combat feels great - it's your basic Napoleonic combat, with typical formations of lines but on larger distances than in, let's say, Calradia: Imperial for instance - a definite plus imo. The melee however is less satisfying than in the mod which lies closely to my heart in that aspect - Parabellum. It's okay, but then again - this is the age of the musket. I do not remember how well battles went, but I didn't have any problems with that apart from your standard high casualty rate - but that's a given in any black powder mod. The only problem I had with this mod - as with many - is the lack of bandits on which you can train. You first must find their hunting grounds - easy enough - but then it is very difficult to find them, thus making money through that and training your man can be a pain in the arse. There were some minor bugs that I forgot now, but that's obviously a given. Overall - an awesome mod, a great idea, would recommend to anyone at least somewhat interested in anything beyond the Medieval mods. As with any mod, requires a little bit of polishing, but that's understandable - yet takes away the 10. I like it very much and I have spent countless hours playing it.

The Red Wars

Mod review may contain spoilers

There are a few mods that really stand out in the Warband community with their complete overhaul of the game mechanic. You have the Star Wars mod, the WWII China mod or Mount & Musket, but The Red Wars is definitely one of the most original and interesting ideas for a M&B mod. I believe the idea behind it is Calradia in the 1920's, in a similar fashion to our world. It's not a proper representation of the interwar period, however, it's a lot more like Calradia than the pre-War world was at the time - you have elements like varying dates of weapons, with countries realistically allied duking it out every once in a while and with fictional armor or weapon proportions. It's not the 1920s, not ours - it takes a lot of inspiration in the doctrines and elements, but it's certainly still in the idea of this mish-mash of different yet close eras and cultures mixed into one. The gameplay is a lot different than in Warband, the tactics and casualties are a lot more modern, and to be fair using the old 100-400 man system is too little for this mod. It's still a lot of fun, and 150 men is quite a lot but it just doesn't give you the idea of mass charges, but perhaps that's how Calradia should be. There are no vehicles and no artillery (apart from the Mark IV Swadian Grenadier mortars, obviously) which is quite a letdown since that was the time of quick technological advancement in warfare. The factions are very much distinct. The locations are quite impressive, however often ugly and underdeveloped (which is understandable for such a scale project) - still interesting however. Your killing machines are variable, yet often repeating, in originality sense - like the types of different bolt or lever-action rifles used by every faction. Those weapons drastically change how you play, however the old command system shows how new technology can massacre old tactics - grenades lobbed into tight formations gave me the biggest realization of that. I'm not gonna bore you more. I've mostly focused on the stuff that I can criticize, since the mod done a lot of things right. A few things I'd suggest be fixed or done another way:
- The Swadian uniforms should have rolled-up sleeves, since it just looks great and would reflect the Wehrmacht photos shown in the menus.
- The Swadian Sharpshooter class is ****** mate, some tiers have shittier gear than Soldaten and some ******* don't even have skill! I dunno if this was made to balance, but it definitely doesn't make sense RP-wise (plus the Nords have OP snipers anyway, so why shouldn't the Butterherr)
- Scoped rifles are not usable normally by a player
- While I understand that the world isn't supposed to be extremely narrow in it's eras, I think that having assault rifles is a bit of a stretch and should be taken out in place of more submachineguns - things that IMO should be a LOT more common on the battlefield
- I think more soldiers should use bolt-action rifles
- Soldiers shouldn't be given sabres and such since they'll use them instead of using the bayonet. It just looks gay as **** and kinda break the idea of the working class' frontal charges.

Thank you for your time.

I've already posted my "review" in the comments. TL;DR version - an awesome mod, not too far off Native, not too vanilla. I like to call these mods "Goldilocks mods". A couple of bugs, but it's understandable, as this is after all a mod. 10/10

1860s Old America

Mod review

This mod is fantastic. I didn't found any bugs, the way how they changed battle orders are great, and it really is realistic (many times, even if commanding was good, my men died from some lost bullet).

Game review

This game... is just... is just magical. I mean, first of, there's a lot of thing that you can do here. Second of all, skins are easy to make for yourself. And mods are great.

BFV Arsenal

Mod review may contain spoilers

It is a great mod. It improves BFV really much. It ad's French paratroopers (Indochina Wars), ANZAC (Vietnam), Vietminh (Indochina), and more. I won't tell here about lots of new weapons, 'cause there is too many of them, but I can tell about new classes - Grenadier (1st Marine Divison) is guy with M79 (Blooper), with HE and buckshots, knife and 1911. Rifleman (In the same div) have M14 (yea, it have full auto too), 4 grenades, knife and Colt. And this is only 2 classes from 8. Just in one unit. But the thing that really ****** me off is... bots. Goddamit... there is so lots of places when your computer comrades are just... stoping. Like on LZ Natasha. I couldn't capture last point, 'cause most of French troops just blocked on some outpost. Really annoying, and I hope that developers will fix that ASAP.
