Come to Brazil!
Might be a good idea to make it a little bit clearer that this is a mod for Portal Stories: Mel itself. A link to the steam store page for the mod would be highly appreciated too.
Other than that it looks quite cool! :D
As the lead developer of Portal Stories I was informed by one of my teammembers about the existence of this mod.
This video uses a variety of assets from Portal Stories: Mel, without asking permission first. Nor disclosing this information. Please contact developers before using their assets ;)
Some of the assets in question:
- The Portalgun model.
- The Portalgun texture (whilst recolored)
- The Portalgun particles
- The music
Also the Screenshot found here:

You can download the mod from Steam!

WOW, just wow. That looks stunning.
It reminds me of an alien planet in Starwars Knights of the old Republic.
Love the lighting, the colors the particles and everything. Can't wait to see more.
No, it's not going to be a trilogy.
When we announced that back in 2011 the project was way smaller. The tests were smaller, the graphical fidelity was way lower and overall the quality was just way lower.
Since then we've improved on all aspects and I think it's safe to say that this one big mod now will be better than the trilogy could've been, if we actually continued on that path.
The story we set out originally for the whole trilogy has been heavily expanded upon and all combined into Portal Stories:Mel.
Once the mod is out I'd love to make a video of how various maps were in various stages of development. You will be able to see the quality we could've used to create a trilogy in 2011, or this single big mod in 2015!
Remember; these are screenshots taking whilst the mod is in development. We will have a different gun in the actual mod. Don't worry!
I don't see a purpose for changing the portal colors; they work fine as they are. We have a lot of other stuff that should make the mod worth playing :)
Hey =)
Yep! Still working on it!
It's not on greenlight yet, we're still considering!
Yes, the video is very old and contains a lot of outdated material. We are hoping on releasing a trailer in the not so distant future, that features more and more recent work.
How about before AND after portal 1!
It is also available on the steam workshop!
We might consider it indeed, the problem is that we have no idea how our chances are. Also the $90 fee is something we have to get together ;)
Not in this mod. The biggest problem with sticky gel is that it was left over in the code for portal 2 initially. However in dlc 1 it's been removed and replaced by the reflection gel you might have seen.
Also there's a very good reason why the sticky gel got cut out: it causes motion sickness for a lot of people. And well, that's not good or enjoyable, so no, it won't be in Portal Stories: Mel.
There will be plenty of other awesomeness though :D
We have a projected texture from the ceiling ;)|
And if you take a look at the second image from this map you'll be able to see the observation room above the door :D
The big contrast between the darkness of the frame and the wood might be a bit too much; looking at the full size image it's a bit less .
As for the ceiling it still looks cartoony; I don't know what it is. I think it has to do with the color of the framework I don't know...
It just feels a bit cartoony can't totally explain why.
I don't really like the mixture of a rather cartoony wooden furniture and ceiling and the realistic furniture. :(
The basic story of all portal games is "we've got to get out".
So yeah, you won the bet :)
first of all, we didn't start in 2009, we started in the summer of 2011. The 2009 one is a dead portal 1 mod with the same name.
When the mod is done we will have:
* A custom story driven mod
* High quality custom voice lines
* High quality custom models.
* Brand new textures that will enhance the levels.
* High quality custom music.
* Maps that are like something you've never seen in any portal mod so far.
* A couple of hours of some really brain teasers.
We believe that that's what we want, we don't want to release 9 good maps and let them drown in all the stuff that's in the workshop. We want that high quality we can only achieve if we invest time in storytelling, recoring voice lines and all the other stuff. This mod is really more then just a bunch of good levels ;)
We sincerely hope you guys still support us and we hope we can make you really happy with the mod once it's out :)
sorry for the very very late comment, but what texture are you talking about?
you could, but we aren't. We are just increasing quality all the way. At the moment the mapping is at a low pace, but we're working on our custom music, ironing out the story and a lot more. We're far from dead!
Yeah, the water is one of the final issues with the map, if it shows a bit more of the surface below the water the edges will be a lot smoother :)
Personally I think the fog is too thick and the color correction is a bit too much off. Maybe the too thick fog is because of the color correction, but it looks very very strange.
Oh, and how is that grate thing floating? :P
Inversed vent; isn't that just the effect of a funnel? :P
We know :( but we're doing our very best to get a very high quality mod out! Over the last couple of weeks there have been huge improvements in map quality, take a look at our most recent and our first screenshots! It will be worth the wait!
I'm totally gonna try this Monday or Tuesday when me and my coop partner have time for this; really looking forward to it!
Seems like a nice little puzzle with some nice usage of white gel; good job. I have to agree with Pelk; the new buttons look not good in old apperture. Same with the modern cube. Use a prop_under_button and a prop_under_floor_button to get the old models :)
We did add new images a couple of days ago! check them out :D
This is a part of a map; this style will only be used in about half a map. After that we'll return to the "normal" Cave Johnson style.
