I'm a blue-collar Gen-X Hoosier who loves S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (especially w/mods) and all things pertaining to the dystopian wasteland genre of movies and video games. Of all the mods available for all the games out there, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mods are some of the best.

Excellent megamod! It's especially fun for those of us who like to make S.T.A.L.K.E.R. videos regularly and who especially enjoy playing the game "Choose Your Own Adventure" style (which is, after all, how a dystopian wasteland-themed open-world sandbox game is meant to be played).

Why are there no blue boxes in LA? Can anyone think of any other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game or mod that doesn't have stash boxes? Where is the player supposed to stash their stuff? There's so much stuff you can't possibly carry it all with you and ditching it is wasteful. In any other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game or mod, you can always find a place to stash your surplus goods. In ShoC, modded or vanilla, there are always stash boxes that can used as base camps in every region of the Zone from Cordon to Pripyat. No stashes in Stancia that I know of, but there's at least one in the Chernobyl plant. So why is it that the only stashes in LA are hidden ones and not base camp stashes? So many terrible design choices! LA ditches a lot of features that made ShoC fun to play, adds terrible features from Clear Sky (weak shotguns, near useless pistols, rickety character movement, etc.), and top of that, removes the player's ability to keep their surplus gear organized. This is not a game for the detail-oriented. Way too sloppy.

Not sure if this issue has been addressed, but in v1.3003, if you have Fox (and I'm assuming any other mechanic) upgrade an AKS-74 to accept a GP-25, it permanently mounts a PSO-1 scope on the rifle. Some might think of this as an exploit since it gives you a free scope that doesn't add extra weight, but it inhibits the use of iron sights which are better than as cope for indoor CQC fighting. My question is - how is it possible to overlook this sort of thing? This is a severe inhibition to both realism and gameplay. First of all, the GP-25 was specifically designed to fit onto standard service rifles (AKM, AK-74, etc.) without the need for modifications, accessory kits, or specialized forearm mounts. Secondly, it adds nothing to gameplay strategy. All it does is force the player to pay for something that shouldn't cost anything in the first place.

Also, Nikonov designed the AN-94 to accept GP-type grenade launchers (25, 30, 34, etc.) by default, so it too shouldn't require a modification in order to accept one. Oblivion Lost got it right. Oblivion Lost got a lot of things right. No other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game or mod gets as many details right as the various versions of Oblivion Lost.

Addendum: And another thing - why do the video options list "DX9" if I have DirectX10?

All of my high hopes for Lost Alpha have been obliterated. Firstly, it crashes if you reset your controls. Can you think of any other game or mod that doesn't let the player customize their controls? Fortunately, I found a way around that. The crash only happens when you first start a game or load a saved game. After that, you can customize your controls, but if the game crashes (which it will), you'll have to reset to defaults before loading a saved game, then change them all back again. Secondly, it doesn't recognize patches. I installed the third patch, but my version still registers as v1.3000 instead of v1.3003. Thirdly, the contrast between light and shadow is too extreme, forcing the player to use their flashlight in the daytime, thereby wasting battery power. This wouldn't be too much of an issue if not for the need for batteries. Speaking of which, why can't you unload batteries from headlamps the same way you unload ammo from weapons? But the worst aspect of this game is that it ceases to function before you get out of Cordon, meaning that you don't get to experience 99.9% of the game. It crashes right after you work out a deal between Sid and the Sin faction for the release of Fox. If you quicksave right after the Sins release Fox, your quicksave won't load. After reading some of these other comments, it appears that I'm not the only one to experience this. If this was fixed with the 3rd patch, then why doesn't the 3rd patch work? This feels like a Catch-22.

I unpacked and installed this successfully and it won't play. It's v1.3000. Does it need a patch just to function or what? It loads the opening intro cinema, then crashes before it starts to play. Also, when I try to load the "all" instant saved game that starts from beginning (right after the intro), it crashes the same way (right before it would otherwise load).

I see an Ares Shrike. I like Shrike. Love using it in ObLost 2010. Professor Sakharov sells it. Only thing that would make it better is if you could mount a Gewehraufsatz 97 on it (which would make sense since the realworld Shrike can accept an M-203 and the GwA.97 is the Zone's universalized NATO-type modular launcher). It would also be interesting to be able to mount a GwA.97 on a Saiga 12K. Why combine a shotgun with a grenade launcher? Because we can! Also because it's the perfect monster hunter's combo weapon. 40-mils for pseudogiants and for blasting supersnorks out of the air. Shotgun for everything else. Besides, if you can mount a GwA.97 on the SR-25, why not also mount it on the Saiga 12K?

Another great weapon system to add to this roster would be the AEK-971 (5.45), '972 (5.56), and/or '973 (7.62x39). The AK-107 in ArsenOL/OL2010 is 5.56, but it should be 5.45. There's also an AK-108 which is 5.56 and is correct in that mod, thereby making one or the other redundant. I'm sure that was a programming oversight. Too bad, though, because an AK-107 in the proper caliber, combined with a GP-25, would be a game-changer for pre-Bar adventuring. It would even be a step up from the "Rapid-Fire" AKS-74 due to its recoil mitigation system.

Some of these also appear in Oblivion Lost 2010. I especially love the PPD-40, PPSh-41, Vz.58, Galil, HK416, RPK-74, and Saiga 12K.

Looks great! What if it had a sideways mouth? Or a mouth within a mouth, even? Or corrosive projectile vomit? Or intestine-tentacles that shoot out of its piggitty pignose or something? Image if it was half fleshpig, half CLOWN!! Also, that AKM yearns to be reunited with its bro, the GP-25.

Can you join the scientists? I'd want to be an ecostalker just because ecologists, as a faction, pay well and offer good exploration equipment, more effective meds, and probably clean food and water. In Oblivion Lost 2010, you can have Sidorovich hook you up w/any faction right from the start, including bandits and ecologists. Starting off as an ecostalker means you're given papers that allow you to pass through the railway embankment checkpoint w/o having to bribe Major Kuznetsov. I also like the idea of mercs and bandits targeting you as an ecostalker because it means you can kill them and not feel bad about it (just like the old days).

The environs shown in the Assaultron's portion remind me of the Half-Life mod 'Paranoia'. The Assaultron, himself, also reminds me of Paranoia and the Metro games. I could imagine him crashing a flatbed KAMAZ into a merc base and gunning them down with a DShK mounted on the back in the style of 'The Expendables'.

Some countries designate it 0.45. Seems that they're more likely to do that if they use metric as per standard. Caliber is an Imperial fraction-of-inch measurement.

Nomenclature seems to change throughout the years, so it can be hard to keep it all straight. Machine guns are typically "light," "heavy," or "general purpose." The RPK-74 and the Ares Shrike are LMGs. The DShK and the M2 "Ma-Deuce" are HMGs. The PK, PKM, and PKP can be issued as either LMGs or GPMGs. And the MG3 and M-60 are examples of GPMGs.

I've handled a semi-auto civvie/sporter version of an RPK in 7.62x39 w/bipod and it was a reasonable weight for its purpose. Heavy compared to an AKM, but only because of all that forward mass (especially the bipod).

If that "Vz.61" is chambered for 9mm Makarov (which is technically 9.27x18mm), then it's a Vz.82. I've never seen one in a movie or video game in which the stock is used. I've read that the stocks on those are kinda chincy, have bad cheekweld, and don't have a good length-of-pull compared to the average person's build (especially in regard to arm length). I think the average length-of-pull is something like 13".

The Vz.61 is chambered for the anemic .32 ACP round and uses curved mags. The Vz.82's mags are straight. I remember thinking as far back as 2007, in vanilla ShoC, how great it would be to have a Vz.82 as a Zone weapon given the prevalence of 9x18 ammo.

FunFact: The Vz.61 was featured in the movie 'Virus' which also featured AK-74s w/GP-30s attached to them. I'm guessing they were GP-30s. They might have been GP-25s or '34s. They looked like they were duct-taped onto the rifles instead of properly mounted which means that, aside from obscuring the quadrant sights, they wouldn't have functioned because those types of launchers have both a manual safety and a failsafe mechanism that prevents functioning unless properly mounted on a host rifle (unless we're talking about the standalone version of the launcher). Also, they can mount on any AK-74, AKM, or AN-94 as per standard w/o any extra mounting accessories.

In regard to bullpup affinity: Imagine a Kushnapup (basically a bullpup version of a Saiga 12) with an integral GP-30 like the Groza-4 in OC-14-4A configuration. Ultimate weapon for battling pseudogiants and chimeras. Also fun for blasting long-jumping "super" snorks out of the air which is jolly good sport.

I've always wanted to see bayonets for rifles and shotguns, modular shotguns that can mount on rifles (or rifle/shotgun combination guns), and grenade launchers mounted on shotguns (ex: GL5040 or M-203 mounted on Saiga 12K or GP-25 mounted on Protecta). Just assume that the launcher mounting system has been "zonesmithed" to allow universality. Another option would be to have special custom weapons that are permanently mated together (shotgun on rifle or grenade launcher on shotgun) like the Groza-4 in OC-14-4A configuration (w/integral GP-30) or the FN F2000 with its integral EGLM. Yet another option would be to have zone mechanics do the "zonesmithing." All you have to do is provide the parts and the cash.
