I've tried a couple of mods. Both Subscribed from workshop and self downloaded and have had no issues so far.
Things to remember:
-Remove the Mod launch options from Properties-Set Launch Options
-Remember that mods that change the base game data folder will still cause issues for the regular game or other mods.
-Make sure and let the mod finish downloading all the way before trying to play.
Probably other things, these are what first poped into mind.

A Petroglyph developer gave this answer to a guy with the CD version. Sounds like they are at least considering the other versions.

(answer from VirtualTed:) I'm afraid we don't have access to the original code for the disc version, which is a big reason why we can't get a patch out for retail customers from 12 years ago. I'm still talking to the guys about it however.

I see the field for Galactic Zoom you mention in that optional readme.

Where is the planetary zoom at? Like when you are in a land battle. There is another mod I was curious about but it has me zoomed in so far I can see my circle for the landing zone only. If I can't tweak that to see a little farther around my troops there is no way I'll play it.

I play on normal/medium.
I guess for normal its okay. They have just started mixing MC90's into their fleets. So I'm thinking that I'm going to start seeing stronger fleets soon with several big capital ships. The last time they attacked me there was one MC90 and lots of weaker ships. Dreadnaughts, MC40's and the like. Number 2 and 3 size ships. If I'm right pretty soon I'll probably see a fleet with several MC90's or larger. Then it'll get interesting.

I haven't seen any issues yet. In my Empire vs Rebels only GC the rebels are at Tech 5 and building high grade ships. They seem to be doing everything they are supposed too.

Okay cool. just making sure I wasn't missing anything.
I'm going to start a Empire GC (empire and rebels only) and see how the Rebels act.

Question: The optional files read me mentions another file for Zann turbolaser towers and shields. Am I supposed to see another file? I only see the gameconstant files for the zoom stuff.

Today I tested again but I was playing Zann.
I was up to level IV space stations.
The Empire had some level III and a couple of level IV that I could see and I saw a few ISD. So they were advancing tech levels.

The Rebels though still only had level I and II space stations (if they had any). And nothing but corvettes, fighters and bombers.

So it looks like its only the Rebels that are not advancing tech levels.

I ran into the AI issue by the way. I had been playing GC as Rebels on the big map with only Empire and Rebels. It was working fine. The Empire was building higher level stuff and attacking. They had level 5 space stations. And attacking with ISD III and Vengeance class star destroyers.

Then I started am Empire GC. I'm up to Tech IV building Pellaeon ships. The Rebels only come at me with swarms of Corvettes, Fighters and Bombers. They are advancing Tech and building anything better.

Wonder why it worked fine on my Rebel GC game but didn't on my Empire one?

Are you referring to the zoom on the galactic map? If so that is answered by reading the description above.

Question: Do your changes/fixes work on all the listed maps? Or just certain ones? I enjoy playing the UGC map that has the most planets (130 something I believe). Or is your stuff only for the Ultimate Chaos map (69 planets I believe)?

Out of curiosity. What do you mean by "mod the ships to act as garrison vehicles for the ground transport shuttles during space combat"?
What would this change? How would it work?

I use Medium Speed (FoC default), Farther Zoom
The speed is what I'm comfortable with and I like being zoomed out like that.
Playing through Rebels conquest right now. Everything seems great.
