It could be an idea as well having the South African Brigade represented in the mod in the future.

They fought in only 1 major action in WW1, during the Battle for Delville Wood (where they suffered heavy casualties), so it would be interesting paying a homenage to them in the mod. I think that by recycling the Bulleau Wood map, I think we would have a good start to represent this combat - without spending too much effort on creating a new map

Nice job once again!

Montfaucon is easily one of the best maps I ever played on this mod with Bot support. Good AI and the combinned arms experience (with tanks, infantry, arty and planes) in a huge map, with historical accurate context, is simply perfect. Hope to see smt like this representing Verdun or the Somme one day.

P.S. the Winter Train map would be perfect for a future Checkoslovak Legion expansion. Representing a small skirmish in Siberia or smt.

That mod looks pretty interesting... it will be merged into TGW or it will be separeted of it?

In the description, you say that it will not have major conflicts, besides de Russian Civil War. But it will involve only the whites and soviets, or the poles, latvians, lithuans, etcs will fight each other as well, like in the historical post-ww1 scenario?

Another suggestion is that you could transform the Berlin region into the Spartacus League state, so that we could have another 'war' in this period: the Weimar State/Freikorps x KPD/Spartacist uprising

Thank god I'm alive to see BF1918 enter the Moddb top 10. Finally one of the best mods ever made for BF42 finally got the recognition it deserved.

This is perhaps the best 'thank you' we could give to the team that revived the mod a few years ago.

Indeed, patience leads us to great rewards. This was undoubtedly one of those cases.

Congratulations to the team for the mod, which looks spectacular. The new weapon models (especially the German Gewehr) are excellent, by the way.

The only downfall to me is that the map that I love most from the mod (Operation Gericht) haven't yet received bot support, but that doesn't even bother me now, tbh.

I have absolute sure that the version 3.4 will be a great foundation for any future releases and updates.

Thxs again boys!

Exactly.

People forget that we had to wait for 8 years for development from version 3.1 to 3.2 of the mod. So giving the devs a few extra days is no big deal (besides it´s a way of showing a minimum of respect for their work)

Well, since GameSpy shut down some years ago, the servers run through Punkbuster now. It´s almost the same thing, tbh.

And some time ago I was willing to do a discord, not only for BF1918, but one that would put together in one place the most popular games about WW1 (like the WW1 series - Verdun, Tannenberg & Isonzo - Beyond the Wire, The Great War Mod for NTW, Great War: Western Front, and others), so that we could have a community with all of us: this small niche of players of WW1 related games.

But the real life commitments were draining me, so this project of mine entered on a eternal hold. So If anyone really wanted to set up this community, feel free do so. You have my idea

Yes, and that's another problem I've seen that exists in the mod when it comes to the French faction - there is a gap between the 1914 and 1916 uniforms.

The soldiers go straight from the red troussers and kepis of 1914 to the blue and Adrian helmets from 1916.

This is even more pronounced in colonial units (like the Tirailleurs or the Marocains), which have even more weird/fancy uniforms, which had been discontinued by mid-1915. I think that, if possible, adding a 1915 version to some French units would be a good idea, as it is almost a separate version, like the 1914 and post-1916 ones.

BTW: I loved you new SchutzTruppen/Askari models

Well, the last time I played BF1942 (about six months ago) you could find at least 3-4 active servers, mainly playing the vanilla version of the game - in the weekends, you could even find some 128-full servers rolling!

Now, if you're specifically asking about BF1918, the servers have been empty for a few years now. I know this mod since the beggining, and I never saw more than 30 people playing it simultaneously on MP - and that was a long time ago.

The only opportunity I see for us to play BF1918 in MP is to create a Discord channel only focused on the BF1918, which will bring together all the mod's players in one place, to organize matches. And now is the best time for that, as the new version should attract some older players back - like me. If not, the MP will always be a empty desert.

Brow, I would like to thank you for your efforts in the uniforms - they are a special touch for the TGW mod (a must for it, tbh)

Anyway, can I ask/give you some ideas for uniforms?

1. A interwar version for the French Army (the blue uniform with the blue kepi, smt like a 1915 style)
2. A 1914-1915 version of the Austrian Snipers, with the blue-greyish uniforms.
3. A ersatz version (reserve battalion) for the austrian army, with a combination of the original blue-greyish pants or coats of 1914-1915, with a feldgrau coat or pants, of 1916-1918.

I believe you forgot to add a launcher for the Standalone version, because I can´t find any.

Btw, this mod is compatible with other mods (like NTW III or ACW)?

That would be nice! I saw that a while ago, there were some people asking for more maps with gas - and this would be a simple and historical solution.

And, correcting my mistake, there were no Senegalese troops in Langemarck/Gravenstafel Ridge at the time, but the 45th Algerian division + 87th Territorials.

If you or any other guy wants to know a little bit more about it, I would recommend check this: Greatwar.co.uk

I know that the next version of the mod is near, so can I give some suggestions for some other future (a far way future tbh) maps for the Mod?

- Bois des Caures (as a homage for the first hero of Verdun: Emile Driant)
- Vauquois (which was one of the most destroyed zones/sectors in WW1)
- Kilometre 0 (a map near the Swiss border, like Pfetterhausen)
- Clone the Langemarck map and turn it into a gas map (replace the French with Canadians or Tirailleurs Senegalais, as a option to depict the gas attacks in that sector in 1915)

I'm starting to feel sorry for the WW1 lovers who will never know about this mod. Because with this update, it's about to become the best game about the First World War without a doubt. I'm not talking about graphics and stuff, but about the atmosphere of the time, which is unrivaled in any other game other than BF1918.

Just add some extra maps in Africa and the Middle East and we will have a holy grail!!!

I bought Napoleon: Total War just to play this mod; and I tell you, I don't regret it for a second. Along with War of Rights, it makes a perfect duo for any American Civil War aficionado.

I jut want to leave my congratulations to the mod's developer(s).

As a future suggestion, I hope you can explore other theaters of operations (such as the New Mexico campaign and its famous Glorieta Pass battle; or some early battles in the Louisiana, such as Bayou Bourbeux). These battles would be more than a plus/differential, as they are (and I'm sure will be) rarely covered in other games with the same theme.

I know that this would be a colossal job, but little by little, it is always possible to build something like this.

I know the launch is planned for the beginning of next year, but do you guys have plans to release a teaser of what's to come?

It doesn't have to be a super video (as I know this consumes time that could be spent on developing the mod - or doing smt else), but a list of news with some screenshots. Just to give a taste of it; but keeping some surprises too!!!

Yep, I understand that. That these implementations have to be evaluated from map to map, seeking to merge balance with fun and historical accurancy.

For example, I'm not asking to implement a battery on a map in the desert or one on the eastern front (to reflect mostly the caracteristics of these theaters). But on the western front, there has to be artillery, mainly to make it difficult to capture the flags, especially near no man's land.

What could be my mistake is that i assume almost everyone plays with +200 bots, which explains my argument.

And yes, the mortars are the good solution for the argument of artillery. The problem is that the Bots are a little dumb while they are operating this kind of artillery. But as I always say, I understand the engine limitations of BF 42.

FlyingSaucer - - 28 comments @ Battlefield 1918

I give another batch of suggestions (sorry for being a pain in the *** - again)

After playing this mod for so long, I saw that certain maps have a problem: the amount of artillery available for both sides.

For example: in Monte Piana, it doesn't make sense to have the amount of cannons available on the central battlefield. Especially the moving ones, which only confuse the bots. The same case in Paternkofel (just to name a few).

I would rather have stationary cannons in some places (even loving the ability to move artillery in BF1918), which would be better for the bots and, for example, to create strongholds.

Another thing would be to increase the number of batteries in some maps (when I say batteries, I refer to the to the set of 4-5 guns that only need one player to shoot). More firepower, more artillery - so, fewer players/bots needed to shoot, more on the battlefield. And of course, more realism. When we think of WW1, we want to run through the no-man´s-land amidst a rain of shells, don´t we?

Another interesting feature for future versions is to see if it is possible too add new running animations, just like some guys did with FH: Youtube.com

For me, way more realistic. But again, only as a suggestion for any future version of the mod that comes out

The iron sights function is only implemented in some LMGs, like the Lewis, MG 08 and the Benet-Mercie (and Chauchat, if i´m not wrong).

Unfortunately, rifles and pistols still do not have this function. Fingers crossed that future versions of the mod have this possibility included for most (if not all) guns.

Just follow the tutorial made by subzer096 - Youtube.com.

Works like a charm (I say it because I've used it myself and I attest that it works) and it´s easy. So don´t worry.

As observation u might have problem finding the Winrfa program. My recommendation is to download the MDT - Modder Development Tool - for Battlefield 42 (which u can find here on Moddb), which comes with the Winrfa tool.

I hope it helps and stay safe :)

So, this is an old problem of BF1918.

I remember that since the first version of this map with bots, in version 3.0 (or v 3.1, maybe ?) of the mod, the BattleAxe 1918 causes a CTD.

If I remember correctly, about 8-9 years ago, in the mod v 3.1, I tried to investigate what caused the crash. It was something related to the interaction of the bots with the map objects (tanks, planes, mg nests, etc). Now, what specifically cause the CTD (because it had a specific object causing it), I don't remember exactly.

Anyway, I tried to fix the problem myself, but due to my limited coding knowledge (which is close to null), I couldn't solve it. I tried in every possible way, but regardless of my efforts, always that CTD, on average between 2 to 5 minutes after starting the match.

Maybe someone from the mod development team can help you (and us). I just came here to clarify that this is an old problem, and not just smt related to the current version.

Yep, Arabs. And even more now, that you guys are making some maps related to sabotage and raid action, it would fit perfectly. The specialty of the Arabs in the WW1 was to sabotage ottoman railway bridges and viaducts, so its a match.

And another thing, even substitute the horses by some camels???

But I can wait for that. I know this won't be something that will be done overnight.

Wow, that is f*cking spetacular!!!

A wonderful job from u guys. Looking forward to the update.

As a suggestion for future updates. Since u are always looking to add new factions, maybe could u add the Arab Irregulars in some desert maps? Be part of some action lead by T.E. Lawrence would be sweet!!!

The mod development team deserves applauses for all the hard work that has been put on this mod. I play it since one of the first versions (when u could only play in the Kursk map with ww1 weapons and in Argonnewald, which was so buggy, that was almost impossible to play in it). Since then, it has been a long road and seeing such a beloved game receiving updates nowadays, after all those years, fills my heart with joy.

I hope that u keep your effort in making this mod even better and growing in content (I wish that someday, the 1916 battles been playable with bots – like Somme Gas Attack and the Côte de Froideterre - but don´t worry, I will wait for it, because I know it takes time).

The only complaint that I have (and I don´t know if u have fixed – If you had, sorry for talking about it, but I haven´t played the latest version yet) is the annoying bug that the Bots sometimes spawn under the trench in some maps. Is that possible to fix or nah ?

Anyway, thanks for all and I hope that 2021 will bring even better things for the BF1918 community.

The most sincere congrats from a Brazilian fan!!!
