Some smaller maps and smaller textures (512x512 and smaller) should be loaded successfully. But IIRC a couple of compiled maps were compiled with Xash3D's increased limits in mind.

The one in front of it was there to begin with as you can see on the left pic. For the most part, it just become a spherical source instead of cone-shaped one. I tried to keep the vanilla look more or less, I started with "complex" 1-cos(ang) math that was supposed to darken the light just as much as its spread increased but the result was still way too bright so I went for much more simple approach and stick with it.
It is a good question whether one should guide player with lights. But anyway, Valve made a series of fakey leveldesign decisions. They aren't perfect but they do work. But if you try to fix one part in the chain to make it not so fakey, entire thing breaks. I couldn't let that light_spot live considering how bright and focused it was compared to actual sunlight going through grate that this light_spot was supposed to portray.
Yep I got used to a simpler looking graphics so it's definitely not a performance issue. :) I even made another pack that blurs Valve's excessive pixelization, just haven't uploaded it yet.

P2 dev doesn't even care to get in touch to add this to P2 category. It would be nice to reassemble P1 team but they're probably adults with kids nowadays so chances are low.
It is technically there, click on "KPL" developer title. That's all I can do with current editing rights.
Back in oct2019 we still couldn't contact P2's main dev. I haven't checked it since. Anyway I arranged this update as a separate game in "xash3d engine" category, with a link to original developer. Actually, you probably noticed this file for a sole reason of me noobishly archiving and unarchiving it back. I uploaded the same file to that new "game" category so this one will be archived soon.
