This is a superb example of a general improvement to a computer game. Quake's monsters look really blocky by modern standards, and this mod does a fine job of correcting that... but not to such an extent that the improved models make Quake's original map architecture and original textures look obsolete. I look forward to future versions of this mod.

I needed to tinker around to finally get it working. Here are my steps to success:

1a. download 'vispatch-1.4.6.tgz'
1b. right-click it --> Z-Zip --> open archive
1c. double-click 'vispatch-1.4.6.tar'
1d. double-click 'vispatch-1.4.6 folder' to open it
1e. double-click 'bin'
1f. double-click 'win64' (since I use Windows 10)
1g. select 'vispatch.exe' and extract it

2a. download 'id1_vis.tgz'
2b. right-click it --> Z-Zip --> open archive
2c. double-click 'id1_vis.tar'
2d. extract 'id1.vis'
2e. Rename the 'id1.vis' file to the 'vispatch.dat'

3a. Copy or cut both 'vispatch.exe' and 'vispatch.dat' and paste them into your Quake/id1 folder
3b. run 'vispatch.exe' - it takes less than a second to complete on my computer apparently

Now the water should be transparent and less glitchy.

I'll make it a point to send this news to the folks at AMD, and I'll try again after the next major driver update then.

Overall, I really like this sound pack. It sort of reminds me of an old Quake2 soundpack titled "The TronicSound-TC for Quake2 by Tronicmind" (q2tsndfull.zip), but I prefer this sound set. The only sound I really didn't like was the Gunner's hissing alert sound - that sounds more like what I imaging the Parasite monster would sound like.

I get a sort of salt-and-pepper effect on screen when viewing the menu, then nothing but distortion during gameplay.

I followed your installation instructions carefully, installing COVID edition, the update, OpenAl driver, and deleting cachexp and xpconfig prior to running Quake2XP.exe

I am using a Radeon RX 5700 with the most recent stable driver - 20.11.2

Log file from console - I think this was too large to be pasted to pastebin

I just got an AMD video card, and this mod is a little wonky; the point where my projectiles land is well above the crosshair.

Will this mode work with an AMD video card?

It looks like you are on the way to making a supreme general enhancement mod for Doom3. I released a mod based on Denton's mod 2.02 a few years ago called Infernal Death Orgy 1.7. It received good reviews on ModDB. You might find some things good to pluck from my old mod like HUD, sounds, textures, particles, etc. The readme files and changes to .def, .script, .gui and so on are exhaustively annotated. The best particles I've seen are Phrozo's pack also on ModDB.
