Well honestly, I don't really care too much about humanity (we obviously hold SOME meaning, being matter that's gifted with consciousness, but on the cosmological scale we're utterly irrelevant), but the thought of the universe ending up like this is far more saddening for me than any prediction of the end of our species.

well yes it is quite sad - but we knew it had to end, i mean we know nothing can last forever. Not even time and reality itself.

but the Universe still has billions of years of light left and 10 to onehundred trillion till the last partcles decay and the last black hole evaporates-

and if M theory is correct we are not alone, continously new universes are born.
so even as are reality fades into the cold eternal viel of black, new worlds will be born with the chance of new life, new conciousness to marvel at the beauty and wonder of reality for a brief but marvalous instant.
Though i will never see it, i find this fact more glorious and beautiful than any of the imagined spiritual wonders of man and i feel a great privleage to be here to admire the glory and beauty of the universe in this time when its at its greatest.
