okay, so here's my hypothesis:
when the water rushed through the earth to the ocean basins it went in a path of least resistance so when it hit a hard wall of rock it went around it.
just an hypothesis, so feel free to try and disprove it. also its just my point of view, so if you know that your response might cause a debate then please PM, or post it on my page:)
