niteris waits for days on end... and nobody turns up...

*An english lord makes his way towards bern.

*Niteris spots the the two lords enter the hall and he moves to greet them.

"Friends, welcome to the great city of Bern. Please, find a seat. We must wait for the others before we are to begin." Niteris explained.

Swiss Halbardiers were posted on every door under order of the Duke of Bern. They were there to make sure the crowd does not get too rowdy.*

*A lord from every Italian city state leaves for Bern*

*Niteris greets all the nobles and lords as they enter. The French sent a noble, Germans a noble, the King of Spain, a noble from Portugal, a noble from Milan, the king of Sicily, a Norwegian noble, a polish noble, and a representative from the crown of Aragon all come and find seat.

Niteris looks around and notices that Scotland has not sent any word at all, a pity, he thought. He walks up to the podium and turn to the crowd. He raises his hands for silence.

"Kings, Lords, Dukes, and Nobles, welcome to the council of Kings. I have asked all of you here to decide what must be done to make sure the safety of Europe and our people stay in tact." Niteris said.

"The Mongol Empire has conquered almost all of eastern asia and has allied with the Ottoman Empire who control the entirety of the Middle East." Niteris continued.

"Now, what are we going to do to counter these pagan and muslim hordes?" Niteris asked.*

*Sir Ghorm, Capain of the Popes Personal Guard, enters the meeting. He is flanked by two Holy Knights and followed by 10 Priests, most scribes who will chronicle the meeting.*

"Forgive my absence, I came as fast as I could. I represent His Holiness, Pope Augustus II."

*Ghorm sat down on the chair opposite Niterus, taking his helmet off and placing it to his side. He raises his hand and calls over a servant, who pours him some wine and brings him a plate of fine meat. He begins to eat, hungry after his long journey. He looks up at Niterus, smirking somewhat.*

"And how is the Grandmaster of the Teutonic Order nowadays? Still having problems Lithuania? I heard of a recent revolt that resulted in the death of over 30 Soldiers, and many Civilians. I'm suprised the local populace managed to do that much damage to the great Teutonic Order. Actually, I'm not."

*Ghorm grinned. Him and Niterus had known each other for a long time, inseed, they both fought their first battle toghether, agaisnt a small rebellion in Northern Italy, serving he Papal States toghether. They had never liked each other, and had, on numerous occaisions, tried to kill each other.*

"But where are my manners? Let us forget the Teutonic Order now and concentrate on Europe. A Military Build-up would be profitable and cautious for now. As soon as they heretic swarm descends, we will need as many men as we can to fight."

OOC: Just thought I'd make things interesting. A little rivarly between two great warriors might be interesting. Plus I might develop Ghorm somewhat and make a very interesting event with him... So please try not to kill him yet everyone xD.

*Niteris waited for his anger to settle before he spoke.

"Ghorm, it is always a pleasure to see you. And yes i heard about the little incident in Lithuania, but it was handled." Niteris said.

Niteris then pondered the idea that Ghorm suggested and turned to the others.

"What do you all think? I agree that an army should be ready to respond to any threat that comes up, but where will the soldiers be placed? The Mongols could strike all along the borders of the Teutonic Order, Poland, Hungary, and Wallachia. While the Ottomans could land on Italy itself. We must place them where they will respond quickly to an enemy threat." Niteris explained.*

We recognize not like the Ottomans and we have taken steps to ensure the protection of our nation, but as long as they do not annoy us we will not annoy them.

I am here to ensure that your armies march across my country to reach them, because when you route runs through our country and peace will be broken. Our economy is beter and we all should, and the wars that destroy the armies of evangelization.

My brothers, Hungarians and Greeks can help, all we can do is promise not to take sides and perhaps send food, but only if both the Greeks and Hungarians to support you.

"A military build up of europe, and whos to say someone won't betray the others?" the English Lord was unhappy about both of these 2 powerful men in the same room. He wondered if the Pope knew about this little rivalry they had.

"I propose instead a great wall be built in Eastern Europe to protect from such a mongol attack, should it occur. Now, England is ready to support the idea, if anyone is interested. As we all know, Europe stands alone in this world, I propose no more in fighting and instead unite against common foes."

England already had an increasingly large army to defend its self and with the French crown extremely weak due to enormous amount of in fighting. England had offered it defense forces if it was ever invaded. No true alliance was set forth, but there is now a degree of friendship between the peoples.

"What do you all have to say?" the Lord looked around at everyone. The Spanish king looked at least somewhat interested in the proposal, however the others faces were hard to read.

*Niteris could not help but chuckle at the stupidity of the English Lord.

"You think we have the resources, the relations, or the time to build such a thing? You Englishmen care not for the countries who are the front line guardians. Although i would like to see such a thing constructed, we must look to past experiences with walls of that magnitude." Niteris explained.

"The great wall in Northern England is the best example, served its purpose mostly but was one of the reasons why the Roman Empire fell. No, the standing army is the best idea. As for betrayal, who in their right mind would go against the entirety of Europe? We would divide the leadership between who ever donates the men. That way, no one has complete power over the army." Niteris added.*

*The english lord was a bit amuzed at how the grand master tried to counter the argument. He did a rather pathetic job at it. And you think you can raise a gigantic powerful army within a few months. It would prove more costly to raise such a force, due to pay, large food requirements and the amount of time to train troops properl and theres an even bigger chance of losing a war.

"Your persona of how to win wars is to use men in wars continously. So far, there has been no invasion by either pagans or Islam into europe. Therefore you have no right to say you are the frontlines protecting christindom. Indeed, the biggest threat would be in the meditterenean sea, by invasion by Islam. The germans are a proud people, but you paint a bad reputation as a leader by laughing at your fellow man, for making a different suggestion against yours. There may be many faults in our plan, but it does not require as many resources as you would think. It would cost more in money but less in food, while it will take time, and only a couple of armies will be needed to safeguard the workers. Therefore the english proposal could indeed prove far more effective then a creation of armies. Plus this plan will eliminate any threat that comes from Russia for a very long time."

*The english lord took out his pipe and lighted it. He then began to smoke.

Part 2

"Obviously, you don't think things through very well. Unless you would have seen what kind of significance this plan could have. Now personally, I think you should go read a book about strategies and tactics before throwing men into a meat grinder. And ah yes, before you get angry and begin to threaten me, remember we are in Bern. Not your palace in Prussia. The switz have very different laws compared to the Teutonic Order, you have no rule here, you've al ready overstepped your grounds by taking over Lithuania, and adding it your order. Since your Order was only created by the pope to defend christindom in the East and not have a kingdom at all."

*The english lord continued to smoke and looked around the table. Clearly he had gathered an enormous amount of attention. From the french noble to the Spanish King himself. Several members nodded their heads and showed agreement with the english lord. They soon turned back towards the Grand Master and Ghorm. Any amusement from then about the plan would force them to be eyed suspiciously.

"You had better watch your tongues before i have them cut out and thrown to the dogs. My forces have more strength then an entire army from both of your kingdoms. I may not be a king, but i can certainly command men that could take both of your kingdoms, so id suggest you watch who your talking too!" Niteris yelled.

"The wall is the worst idea yet. You know as well as i do that as soon as we start building the wall, they will throw an army at us. And what if you what you say is true and they do attack by sea? The wall will be worthless then and the mobile army will need to respond. The walls cant move, but the army certainly can." Niteris continued.

"Also, i can raise an army of Knights in a week. The germans could do the same, as could the french. We are not as weak as you would like to believe." Niteris finished.*

*Ghorm tried to hide his smile as the English Lord insulted the Grand Master, and had to let out a small chuckle of glee when Niterus threatened him back. All this amusment was too much for him. However, even though they had their differences, Niterus was right.*

"We may indeed build a Wall. We may build that largest Wall Europe, no, the World has ever seen. But as soon as they enemy find out we have this wall they will simply march South and order their fleets to take them into the heart of Europe. The Wall will, at best, give us a few months extra to prepare ourselves, but the money, workforce and soldiers wasted constructing it will have served very little purpose. Instead, I suggest we construct Fortification on key roads on land, and guard posts and Naval Bases on Islands leading into the Mediterranne. Naval Patrols will also have to be increased, for security."

"Ah, yes back to the idea of an army."

*He continued to smoke his pipe, and whiffing the smoke out into the open.

"And so you truly believe that the best option is to recruit an army large enough to defeat the mongols and triumph over Islam should it invade? That is nearly impossible, for one there are not enough barley any bodied men to even counter the Serbian Army. What makes you think we can defeat the Mongols should they choose to invade. Their forces exceed our own and they have been known to wipe out entire within the course of a day. Surely you have heard the reports from the east. Eastern Europe will fall within a matter of a few weeks. And your forces will be layed in ashes. An army is not the way either, your going to need to find a way to stop them before they even come, and with that we will need to contact the Russians."

"Now, I am finished, England will for now choose its own course in how to deal with problems, only when French, Spanish and the Pope call for Aid will the English answer. Now I take leave.

*And with that closing statement, the English Lord left, still smoking his pipe. Switz Guards outside escorted him to Genoa, where he boarded a ship of flying sails.

"Captain." said the Lord "Take us back to England.

Back in England, the King was enjoying Afternoon Tea known as Low Tea. A blacksmith walks in carrying a case.
Not a word was said, the Blacksmith opened the case and kneeled to the floor. The King took up the sword, it glimmered in the light of day. War was coming to Europe whether expectedly from the Teutonic Order or else from another part of Europe. Either way, the enemy will face the Wrath of the English Crown.

*Niteris sighed and sat back down.

"Typical English, always hiding behind their stout walls." Niteris muttered.

"And Yes Ghorn, you are correct. But the thing that the Mongols use to their advantage is that they use surprise and over whelming numbers to their advantage." Niteris explained.

"But what if we led an army quite large and took them by surprise? We could gather forces in Prussia, Poland, and Russia and surprise them at their own camp." Niteris continued.

"The only thing keeping that country under control is their leader. If he dies, all unification will be lost as many people and tribes will try to gain power. So the main thing would be too kill the Mongol Leader." Niteris added.

He knew that the others had grown bored but he thought that this plan would work and so he waited to see what the others would say.*

"Don't be a fool, Niterus. Pinning your hope on a single act to win the upcoming War would be a foolish thing to do. Creating small installtions along key roads leading to main cities, aswell as traps and various other machinations resulting in Death, will keep their morale down and also ensure their numbers dwindle. Small, precise and well planned out raids on their camps and supply caravans, or sabotaging supply routes, will also ensure morale is low enough for us to rout many before they even get close."

*Ghorm obersved the English Lord as he left. He smiled, just for a split second, then stopped. Soon, everything would be well. Soon, things would go his way. He called out to the English Lord as he left.*

"Running away from a fight will not make it go away. Your cowardice has been noted. His Holiness will hear of this...".

*Niteris nodded his approval.

"Yes that would be the best way to go, less lives lost and although more time consuming, just as efficient." Niteris said.

Niteris walked over to Ghorm and knelt down beside him so no others could here.

"What about the English? Do you really think that the English would ever rise up against the whole of Europe?" Niteris asked in a whisper.*

*Lord Halmar steps into the hall and approaches the remaining Lords.

"Pardon the delay, I am here on behalf of King Valdemar II, King of Denmark and the rightful ruler of Scandinavia.

My King wishes to express his deep concerns regarding the threat in the east against our holy nations, Christianity and the Church and Pope under God himself. His Royal Highness are unfortunately not able to come here in person as he is fully occupied taking care of the grieve misguidance that his people have been subjected to under the rule of another.

The threat to the east is one of his prime concerns and wishes nothing more to help unite Europe under one banner against these heretics. However... Due to the strain of uniting his scattered people, My King and Master will be unable to aid his fellow Europeans and brothers in Christianity under God."

The Lord and messenger turns towards the messenger of his Holiness the Pope.

"But if Holy sanction were to be given to my Lord, King Valdemar II, in his effort to unite Scandinavia. Then the Kingdom of Denmark might stand in a better position to aid in a combined effort against this new threat."

OOC: I swear Cronus, as it gets later, your comments seem to loose their grammar correctness.

*Ghorm looked at Niteurs. He kept a neutral face, as the other Lords looked on, confused. He whispered into Niterus' ear.*

"The English are as corrupt as the Heretics that will soon swarm us. I fear they will turn on us when we most need them... I have spoken with the Pope, though he refuses to take action. We should speak of this another time..."

*Ghorm looked up as the Lord Halmar walked into the meeting. He smiled at him, nodding his head out of respect and listened intently. When he had finished, Ghorm thought for a few moments and replied.*

"Although I cannot speak for the Pope in a matter his delicate, I am sure that His Holiness, Augustus II, will grant His Holy Blessing onto your King and Kingdom. I shall send a messanger to inquire into the matter, and if His Holiness agrees, a Cardinal will be sent to your King, and he shall have his Holy Blessing. But if the Pope is to grant you His Blessing, you will need to offer His Holiness something in return. Aid in destroying the Heretics is a must, and so you shall be Blessed on one condition: You shall not rest until Europe is safe from the Heretics."

*Ghorm gestured and one of the Priests walked over, and he whispered into his ear. The Priest nodded, and walked out of the room.*

"The Messanger has been sent. You shall have you answer during the following months, hopefully. We should return to the matters at hand, however. What is to be done about the Heretics?"

*Niteris stood up and walked coolly to his chair and took his seat. He looked to the lords assembled and decided to lay on them the truth.

"Great Lords, what you have just saw me whisper into the ear of Ghorm was a question. I asked him if he really thought that the English would raise up against Europe." Niteris said calmly.

"He answered me by saying that they are corrupt and that would betray us when we need them most. I myself was shocked by this and he even said that the pope said those very words." Niteris continued.

"This man plans to turn one Christian faction against another. A man who has sworn fealty to the holy father! What do you all think of that?" Niteris shouted.*

*Ghorm looked over at Niterus, a look of pure horror and disgust on his face.*

"What are you talking about? I am all for foul play, but starting those sort of rumours will have grave consequences in the future. You shall either excuse yourself to me or I will be forced to restore my honor in a duel. Entirely your choice, but those sort of rumours get people killed."

*Ghorm maintained his facade with upmost professionalism. He had been lying nearly his entire life, and had developped an affinity for it. Niterus was a fool if he thought he could turn everyone agaisnt him...*

FIRST PART
*Niteris laughed aloud.

"If i agreed to a duel and struck you down, the Pope would excommunicate me and my faction. No i am not that stupid, but i assure you all this: I no longer answer to anyone any more. The Teutonic Order is but a small order of knights inside the new larger Empire that has been born. The old ties have been cut and we answer to no one." Niteris said calmly.

"Messengers are being sent to the English as we speak to ensure that peace remains between our two nations and that we never draw swords on one another." Niteris continued.

"Also, if i ever see your face in the borders of my realm, Ghorm, i will place your head atop a pike. Call me a liar all you want, but nothing can fix the damage you have done." Niteris said coldly.

"If the Muslim invade by sea and land on the Italian peninsula, do not ask for the Prussians to rescue you. As we would rather see you die." Niteris continued in the same cold voice.

Niteris got up and looked to the others.

"Never believe this man while his tongue spills forth lies. I can promise you that England will never raise up arms against any of you. They have bigger problems on their own isles. No your fear should be placed on the restless Moors in the south. And the advancing Mongols to the east." Niteris said.

He looked at Ghorm with disgust and anger.

"I would never duel a man who calls himself a man when only lies spew from his mouth. I would rather duel a rat." Niteris said flatly.

"You may think what you want and may get the others to believe what you say but i know the truth of you. And i swear that if war erupts in Europe, your head will be the first to meet the sword. And i swear that in the name of the Lord, The holy father, and the heavens themselves." Niteris said.

With that he got up and calmly walked out flanked by a dozen Ritterbruders. He mounted his horse and rode off back to his fresh Empire. He knew that the banners must be risen and the forces assembled, for there was a war coming. He knew it in his bones.*

So you've formed an empire and threatened the captain of the pope's personal guard... Smooth...

OOC: oh no not power hungry, i do not plan to march on anyone. I am just readying my forces in case someone marches on me.

*Ghorm regarded Niterus with a calm expression. The other Lords of the Court looked around, confused. Ghorm had whispered something into Niterus' ear and now he was in a fit of rage and declaring his Independance? Niterus stormed out of the meeting, and Ghorm took this oppurtunity to rise.*

"Lords of the Court, it seems the former Grand Master of the former Teutonic Order has fled and left us to our fate. He had good intentions, indeed, superb and honorable intentions, but now he leaves all of that behind to search for Jewles and Riches, for Lands and Power. I know the Pope will be outraged by the corruption that has befelled the Teutonic Order, I will have to ride out immediatly to inform him of the details, but before that, we must all unite under God to purge all Corruption that has swarmed over Europe and repel the Heretic Invaders if they chose to attack."

"For those reasons, I suggest an Alliance throughout Europe, to combine our forces and destroy everyone who opposes us. The Alliance will last as long as the Heretics prove to be a threat. Their Invaison will happen very soon, you all know this. Go now, to your Kings and Warlords and Leaders, tell them of this proposition. This is the Holy Word of the Pope Augustus II, consider it s Crusade to Defend Europe."

*Ghorm gestured to the men he brought with him. They nodded, and followed him. He had a long ride back to Rome, but now he was in an even better position then before. He knew both France and Spain would join him, he had many connections in those Countries and had spoken to their Kings and Lords long before this meeting about a possible Alliance. England he was not so sure about, he did not forsee them leaving the meeting so soon. The King of Denmark wanted only to unite his People and to expand in Power and Land, and Ghorm could pursuade the Pope to declare the former Teutonic Order Heretics and get the Armies of Denmark to march on them, seucuring more Lands, and thus Power, for them. As for the other countries, he was certain they would join in. Disobeying the Pope was an unforgivable sin. Disobeying Ghorm is to invite Death to your doorstep...*
