A sandbox RPG set in the wilderness of Urth. Game design emphasis on deep, complex simulation of the world and "immersive fantasy realism".

  • Detailed simulation of character's body.
    • Activity affects oxygen need, oxygen need affects heart rate, and heart rate affects body temperature, calorie burn, and water loss.
    • Being wet increases heat loss.
    • Your character sweats when over-heated, decreasing hydration.
    • Tracking of calories, hydration, sleep need, body temperature.
  • Gain experience in skills and attributes by using them in a classless RPG system.
    • Currently 18 attributes and 50 skills
  • A vast, complex world.
    • A terrain system that combines height mapping and voxels to allow a modifiable world with 100 km views.
    • Realistic natural lighting.
    • Streams and lakes generated with gradient descent and flood fill algorithms to produce realistic water networks.
    • Dynamic weather. Precipitation rates, wind speeds, light levels.
    • Day-night and seasonal cycles
  • Realistic equipping.
    • Wear many layers of clothing and armor. Locational protection from weapons, magic, and the elements.
    • Carry weight limited by character size and strength. Movement speed impacted by carry weight.
    • Wield any combination of items in either hand. Character size and strength determines when an item needs two hands to wield, or is too big to wield at all.
    • Drawing and sheathing weapons takes time. You might need to drop a tool to quickly draw a weapon.
  • Everything takes a realistic amount of in-game time. Felling and processing a large tree may be a multi-day task for a low level woodcutter.
    • As the player, you have control of time in two ways. Increase the physics rate to travel long distances (not recommended for combat!), and increase the clock rate while performing stationary tasks, such as gathering, crafting, or sleeping.
  • Use weapons or magic to hunt and protect yourself from danger.
  • Gather, craft, and build what you need to survive and eventually thrive.
    • Build with both voxels and static deployables (tents, for example).
  • [NOT IMPLEMENTED] Future additions
    • Simplified off-camera world simulation, tracking needs and events for creatures and plants.
    • Components based crafting.
      • Each component has quality and condition
      • Many varieties of materials with different physical properties that affect an items properties.
    • Bags, pouches, pockets, belts, etc. needed to carry more than two handfuls.
    • Gain/lose muscle and fat in response to what you eat and activities performed. This is reflected in both stats and the characters model.
    • Character creator.
      • Choose between the 4 classic fantasy races (human, elf, dwarf, and halfling)
      • Set aptitude for each attribute. This will determine how easily you increase strength, intellect, endurance, wisdom, etc.
      • Design face and skeletal structure

Backstory

The Urth is covered with a patchwork of brutal fiefdoms in a state of constant war, striving for dominion. Was there a time before, of peace and justice? If so, the memories have been lost to the mists of time.

You were born a slave, as are all members of the so-called "fair races". Though less rugged and enduring than the varied beasts of war, slaves are highly valued by all warlords, for only the humans, elves, dwarves, and halflings posses the intellect and dexterous hands needed to produce stores, armaments, and fortresses.

One day, by sheer luck, you uncovered an ancient artifact. When you reached out your hand to touch it, the world around you shifted, and you found yourself amidst a crumbling ruin. You see not a single line of smoke, hear not a single clanging tool.

Will you build a new life for yourself here, a free life, lost in the wilderness of Urth?
