This game follows the story of what happens after the John Carpenter 1982 movie adaptation of the John W. Campbell JR Novel "Who Goes There?". The original game borrows heavily on the story from the 2002 video game and the current sequel expands further on the plot after Captain Blake defeats the Thing entity. After the death of Whitley and the destruction of Gen Inc property; Captain J.F.Blake boards a rescue plane and leaves Antarctica. Complications arise and the aircraft malfunctions and crashes. With no report from Blake the Alaska base sends in a new rescue team of which you the player take control. Your task is to find Captain Blake and escort him back to Alaska. However the thing entity did not die with Whitley on that day...
The US Forces have overhauled all of their troops and upgraded some of their special forces.
Instead of facing the Heavy with the LMG there is a low chance that they will be packing a milkor MGL instead. So now not only are they already hard to kill with the armor they will disrupt your troops with grenade effects and cause some serious mayhem to your squad if you're not careful. As an extra annoyance the heavy units will try and protect nearby allies with low health.
The elusive Arctic Marines have been upgraded too and show more of a presence towards the end game now then before. The regular marine with the Assault Rifle now has the ability to utilize the m203 launcher on it and will strike you with grenades as well as new assault skills. The variant of the Arctic Marine comes with a bullpup rifle and sniper rifle and uses both efficiently.
The odds are stacked against you captain!
