This game follows the story of what happens after the John Carpenter 1982 movie adaptation of the John W. Campbell JR Novel "Who Goes There?". The original game borrows heavily on the story from the 2002 video game and the current sequel expands further on the plot after Captain Blake defeats the Thing entity. After the death of Whitley and the destruction of Gen Inc property; Captain J.F.Blake boards a rescue plane and leaves Antarctica. Complications arise and the aircraft malfunctions and crashes. With no report from Blake the Alaska base sends in a new rescue team of which you the player take control. Your task is to find Captain Blake and escort him back to Alaska. However the thing entity did not die with Whitley on that day...
This is the 6th Title Screen out of a planned 9 (The 5 from the v1 game will carry over). What's good about these is that I can include parts of the story that aren't really explored in Depth.
Created by Jose, Here we have Doctor Quintel's escape from the frozen Ruins. Doctor Quintel is one of the Gen Inc Doctors who defects and goes on to form his own community of survivors who you can interact with in the v2 game. It provides its own additional story, content and extra side misisons along with new characters. Quintel only ever mentions that Akane helped him escape from the Frozen Ruins but doesn't really explain his ordeal.
In the scene pictured is a scientist named Hawke (one of the interact-able characters in the community) The Hazmat lady is Akane (Her sub-plot revolves around exploring the facility that they fled aka the Frozen Ruins) a Security Guard named Sunderland and way at the back is Doctor Quintel himself, head of the community. The community has 2 different fates in the game, each serves a different purpose to the overall story. Quintel's outpost is an entire optional area in the v2 Story Mode but will help develop some of the backstory and reward you if you choose to pursue it. It also features random events, one of which introduces a familiar face...
Along with the title screen update I've replaced the "Website" command with the "Walkthrough" which will be a spoiler free walkthrough of the game and include all the unlockable rewards/content and where to retrieve unlocked items. It will take you to my website that will host the walk through which I plan to update post game release. The Credits page on my website will also be updated on release if you want to find any of the artists or voice actors who contributed to the v2 update.
Also "The Thing 2" text has been updated by Christie Shinn who created this unique graphic for me inspired by the 1982 movie "The Thing" text title.
