TA3D is a real time strategy game. It started as a new 3D engine for Total Annihilation, now the engine is working, you can play campaigns, skirmish (against AI or running some game script) and multiplayer games. Even if we're still using some data from Total Annihilation (until we replace all of them with our own stuffs). It aims to full compatibility with Total Annihilation and its mods but it brings a new engine. It's a bit like Supreme Commander and Total Annihilation except that it stays closer to Total Annihilation gameplay.
TA3D development has been quite intensive lately. Lots of bugs have been fixed (fonts are no more blurry, water doesn't get strange after a while, ...). New skies, trees, rocks are being made to replace the old skies and Total Annihilation's 2D sprites.
The engine is not perfect, it still has bugs but it's getting stable. If everything goes as expected TA3D 0.6 should enter RC stage and become stable soon :). In the mean time you can help testing it and report bugs. There is a new crash report system which can be used to send us information about crashes but you can still go to our forums to report bugs which don't crash the game.
TA3D now has a new pathfinding engine which can handle interaction between units.
TA3D is a free project whose aim is to remake the engine of Total Annihilation but in real 3D, with perspective, camera management, hardware acceleration...
Great!
Ok, problem solved... It was the music, the game could not handle the .mp3 files :-/
This all look so awesome but I can't play since it freezes when I get ingame after loading screen :'(
Traditional? Are you kidding? C&C would be "traditional". TA mixed up everything and even more modern rts games still don't seem to follow any of the ideas it had set down except, perhaps for Supreme Commander which we all know is from the same developers anyway. Also, didn't Spring do the exact same thing? I think it looks pretty good, tbh, but Spring already did all this and is really damned convenient and the multiplayer works like a charm. Not to mention the amazing mod support it has. The only thing I can say for this game is that the graphics engine feels A LOT like the original TA and Spring tends to be slow even on higher end machines. Definately going to take this one for a ride around the block and come back to see how much I put my foot into my mouth :P
Awesome. Total Annihilation is pretty much the only traditional RTS that I actually like, so I appreciate the work you guys have been putting in this project.
Needs an update!
TA spring and 3d needs to make sure that it has a easier to use build menu, cause whenever i jump into a game, it gets repetitive to look for a certain thing to build at first, cause there lacks a unique picture...
So maybe a scrolling build menu can speed up when looking for a building in that list... Or a choice of listed names instead of pictures, and grouping the names of related buildings and units (power management, T1 Bots, etc.)
Please fix the brawlers/raipers/peewees. They don't shoot properly. They're mean to strafe side-to-side while shooting.
Also, concentrate on optimizing the running performance, rather than putting in more eye-candy.
Great game though.
We were currently fixing lots of bugs, and focusing on making the game working on all supported platforms (Linux, OS X and windows). Optimization will come soon :)
hmm remindes me of spring but in the earlier stages of development... anyhoosles i dont want to lure anyone away from this... looks pretty nice, a dragon????? ooh well im a bit tired gl and good job!
The engine is designed to run on a large range of hardware, so playing with settings can really change the way the game looks. It is possible to make it look exactly like Total Annihilation (using the orthographic camera), you can even run it on a EEEPC :) but if you have a high-end war-machine you can play with all settings to maximum :D (shadows, particles, GPU simulated water, etc...).
Also Spring and TA3D don't have exactly the same goal, so at the end it's normal they don't look the same.
