Divided Reigns is set during the backdrop of a world at war with eachother. The powerful Vooresh Empire has recently defeated the Kingdom of Hess-Erabi when our story takes place. Only the equally powerful Kingdom of Kairon stands between them and world domination. In a world that is harsh, unforgiving and in such despair, how can anything be changed?
In the underbelly of society are a race of people called "Abeyan's". For centuries these human-like species have been subjugated to lives of exclusion and hatred by humans. What fate will befall on them as a result of the war and how does their story fit in?
Ailfred is a Captain in the Vooresh Army and has seen his fair share of combat during the war. Growing up, Ailfred befriended the king of Vooresh, King Ralts, which has catapulted his career and status in society. However, Ailfred is conflicted with the war and considers it a heavy burden on his men whom he tries to take good care of in the midst of so much calamity. Ailfred is hardly seen without his best friend Lieutenant Shakar close by.
A queen of daggers and stealth, Lieutenant Shakar has a significant list of talents that serve her well. Although she has only just recently joined the Vooresh Army, it is clear she already acquired the necessary skills to be a good soldier before becoming a soldier. Shakar sports a care free attitude, but is fierce in her nationalism and friendship with Captain Ailfred which can sometimes come at odds because of Ailfred's views on the war.
At a very young age, all male children in the Empire of Vooresh must undergo mandatory training and military service. The training instills discipline and nationalism at a very young age resulting in a more powerful soldier for the Empire. Orson is a prime example of this militaristic culture. He is quick to follow orders, believes in the Empire's cause and is brave beyond his years. Orson is at odds with his captain as Ailfred's view of the war wanes.
Being Abeyan, and not human, Habar and like so many other Abeyans like him know all to well the dangers they face. It is their duty to educate those around them and inspire hope even when all seems lost. Left with raising his daughter, Niomi, by himself; Habar must be the very careful in balancing Niomi's childhood with teaching her about the real world they live in, but also to let her be a kid and grow up on her own, no matter how difficult life can be.
Wise beyond her short years, thanks to her father's guidance and the disposition Abeyan's must endure, Niomi has a somewhat optimistic view of the world she lives in and effortlessly manages to find the good and beauty in life even when humans would regard her and other Abeyans as filth. Niomi has a insatiable curiosity and desire to learn as much as she can and better understand the world. The bond between her and her father is unbreakable.
King Vooresh (King Ralts to those closest to him), had the unlucky honor of the war breaking out shortly after becoming king of Vooresh. Twelve years ago, the Kingdom of Kairon and Hess-Erabi formed an alliance and invaded Vooresh kingdom. They where able to drive them off their land and through iron will, Ralts was able to reorganize and strengthen his armies and tactics which later resulted in a brutal victory over Hess-Erabi to form an Empire. Ralts was childhood friends with Ailfred.
While growing up in Aldair, a rich but secluded town in the Kingdom of Kairon, Celeste had very little hardships thanks to her fathers fortune. Celeste pursued the sport of fencing at a very young age as do most wealthy families living in Kairon. This would seem like a simple life, but Celeste cannot ignore how while her family is filthy rich, so many in Kairon are devastatingly poor. The desire to help is always there, but as her father would say it, "wealthy people are wealthy for a reason, poor people are no different".
Wedge and Biggs represent almost every soldier under Captian Ailfred's command. One of the heaviest used companies in the war, these soldiers have been at the forefront since the initial invasion to the brutal occupation of Hess-Erabi. Even with their higher military training and discipline than other countries, these soldiers have endured so much that the once unshakable discipline they all had begins to vaporize away ever so little until it spills out as insubordination.
One of the three generals in the Vooresh Army, Gabriel is a quite character that little is known about him, but holds tremendous sway over the king and the events of the war. Gabriel is in charge of the war planning and execution of such plans. He is a clear force to be reckoned with and is rumored to be an excellent fighter. Although his methods are cruel, no one can deny the progress and transformation Vooresh has made since being invaded.
Hello again fans and followers. We would like to apologize for delaying posting this update for so long. The great news is, even though it took a long time to post the newest update, development swiftly continued and we are happy to report that we have a solid 40+ hours of gameplay already!
This update will focus on the 12-18 hour time frame of the game so you can see just how badly we are at getting our press releases out swiftly, This will change very soon as construction of our media is now under construction and will soon be advertising in mass and setting the stage for a thirty minute demo to release soon after.
Some of you may notice that "Diaspora" has been removed from the games' title. The change was because we wanted a name that everyone understood. Whilst "Diaspora" very much relates to the games story, not many people have heard of that word before.
We where hoping to have some video in this update to showcase our battle system. We are very eager to show everyone the system we designed. It is simple, yet strategic - fitting with the classic 90's RPG style we are so used to. This video will unfortunately have to wait a little while as we have not had enough time to break away from development to create it and will need to be delayed until our next update.
And finally, we are happy to announce that we are confident enough to now start hinting at potential release dates. Development is expected to wrap up April, polishing and redesign to continue for a few months and then finally, we are setting a goal for July 2020 as our release window!
We are happy to finally show the 2nd half of our game, the battle screen! Future video's will go into our actual Battle Mechanics, however, from the screen below you can already get a feel for how immersive the battles will be.
Most backgrounds are animated and add to the atmosphere of the surroundings. Very little to no stock art is used. We wanted to concentrate on enhancing this area of the game from the old classic 90's games to help further immerse the player into the world.
As with the animated backgrounds, we also wanted to de-clutter the screen to show at minimum only what is needed. Using a similar visual next turn rotation to plan your attacks, Divided Reigns combat is very strategic in that choosing the correct attack and strategy for every fight is required, but not too difficult or hard to understand for the causal player.
Our heroes find themselves traversing miles of desolate wastelands in the war-torn nation of Hess-Erabi. As if large formidable monsters are not dangerous enough, thirst & hunger are your true enemies in this region of Schism.
Huge caverns also plot the landscape in Hess-Erabi. Trailers and paths only the most fearsome warriors dare attempt to cross. Watch your step travellers!
Hess-Erabi made up the three largest nations of Schism. That is, until their recent defeat by the Vooresh at the on-set of the game. Now, humiliated and their economy destroyed, their ruined cities under Vooreh military occupation, and their will fearsome military reduces to a proxy police state; this once prideful peoples can only dream of the day in which they will be free again.
With their cities destroyed and under the thumb of the Vooresh military, once hubs for world trade and philosophy are reduced to swindlers, pickpockets and beggars.
Exotic religious scholars and warriors have always been hallmarks of the ancient lands of Hess-Erabi.
A much different landscape than the rest of the world, Hess-Erabi contains Schism's most desolate, yet beautiful places in the world...if you know where to look.
A engineering masterpiece, the famous capital city of Kaifek is built around a giant sinkhole. Every year, more and more of the city descends into the hole, lost forever.
Nicknamed "The Queen of Daggers", Shakar has built up a strong reputation in the Vooresh military as a very skilled warrior, saboteur and a not so morale compass for her commanding officer Captain Ailfred. Shakar first encountered Ailfred as they where both newly commissioned officers during the first war of the three kingdoms and took part in the inistal invasion of Kairon where they succeeded in taking the northwestern regions of Kairon before being re-deployed to Hess-Erabi.
Shakar's devotion to Captain Ailfred is absolute, as is with many who have served together for a long time. Her and Ailfred share a bind stronger than Vooresh steel itself. Shakar enjoys her role under Ailfred, but is often at odds with him on his views of the wars.
Development has been on supercharge these past few months and is very far ahead of schedule. We have also begun acquiring the remaining environmental and character art from our extremely talented artists. To date, we have spent a total of:
$1200 - Original Character Artwork
$750 - Enemy Battler Artwork
$3000- Environmental Artwork
$550- Texture mapping, spritesand animations
With over a dozen artists commissioned, we are getting close to wrapping up all outside contractor work so the rest is completely on us to finish development and get the game ready for release. As stated earlier, we are looking to finish development in April and after thorough testing, release in July 2020.
We still have LOT'S more to show you before getting into spoiler territory so more updates to come!
As always, thank you for your support.

This game looks like what I've been waiting on for years! I set up an account just to follow it! Do I just keep checking back or how does this work?
Hi Balt, welcome to IndieDB and Diaspora!
I'm assuming you are trying to find out how to "follow" the games progress (it is not out yet). You can do that by clicking the "Follow" button. It is pretty hard to see, but if you look at the top right of the page and where it says "Profile" with the games developer information under it, if you hover over "Profile" you'll see some pop up buttons.
When you are following, you receive emails whenever we update the game such as posting a new image or news article. We are planning to release another news article within the month btw.
Hope you enjoy!
