Edit of HD models mod to make factions more uniform in appearance and easier to identify while maintaining variety.
Drag and drop gamedata files into HD models addon and overwrite all, my friend (and tester) has run into an issue while doing this, you may have to delete all the config files and add them. Only do so if first option does not overwrite properly. If it does not overwrite properly, you will be able to tell immediately by seeing no change in character models if you spawn as one of the factions. A good way to test is spawning as military and seeing if people are wearing tons of camo's or not. If they aren't (as stated below they only wear 1 camo and brown gorka suits) it is working. Should be save compatible but that hasn't been tested.
an optional file has been included that changes the player armor, it has been a while since I have done anything with it and I cannot remember if it touches all of the factions, this has only been minorly messed around with, should be 100% fine to use but I thought I'd give a warning. If you have any crashes caused by this drop your crash log in the comments and I should be able to fix it very easily.
A screenshot folder has been included as well if you want to look at some not-so-cinematic screenshots of the mod in action.
This mod aims to add more uniformity to the existing factions while maintaining variety. It majorly edits Freedom, Duty, Merc's and Military, as these factions use many camouflages / colors that can make them hard to identify, some other factions such as Clear Sky and Monolith were edited but very minorly, these were edited for variety reasons as some models were unused but looked great.
What does this mod do exactly?
There is some minor issues however, such as some heavily armored units still wearing camouflage that were removed. An example is a Merc exoskeleton with Metro Spartan helmet, it still is wearing Light blue camo as I did not find anything to replace it with. While this may sound worrying, it actually isn't that out of place and is highly recognizable as a mercenary. Another one is a Freedom heavy soldier, it doesn't wear Flecktarn, but it wears a ERDL like camo that has the same colors as Flecktarn, this one is barely noticable and won't be an issue.
If you want to see better examples, I will be uploading some images to my profile. Below are some screenshots.
ARMY
DUTY
FREEDOM
MERCS
I have zero clue about, should work fine with anything that doesn't touch the same config files. Or to put it simple, its as compatible as the original mod.
Enjoy! This mod has been sitting around for months and has been used extensively by both my friend and I, if you have bugs or anything at all, highly unlikely this mod caused your problem, but feel free to drop a crash log or whatever and I can take a look to see if something needs fixing.

good work bro, since we're talking about HD models, is there a way to make first person hand and sleeves textures to actually match with the 3rd person model? THAP does a pretty decent job but I feel like its sometimes kinda off
Sorry I believe the issue with that is hands use their own models, so thats why the base HD models doesn't do it or whatever, so you would have to create hand models for every model if that makes sense
You can reassign the different hand models in the textfile for the specific armor classes. They are referenced here:
gamedata --> configs --> items --> outfits --> o_explorer.ltx (example)
I did a small mod for myself editing some Loner suits that didnt match their Handmodels ;) + you can even assign fitting Helmet-Huds in actor_effects.ltx (if you are using Nav4k or Groks Masks)
Could you please explain further how to replace certain gas mask huds with other preferable ones? For example; using Groks masks I’d like to remove the overlay effect that simulates wearing goggles while using the surplus steel helmet, and instead replace it with something that has no overlay at all.
Can I use this with a mod manager? Or do I have to manually overwrite the HD models Addon folder? Great work by the way!
You have to manually overwrite the files :)
Решейд отвратный, картинка словно черно-белая, прям глаз режет, как вы играете ума не приложу.
Сначала превью и большинство скриншотов были сделаны под дождем. В зоне не должно быть счастливых красок.
Can anybody confirm if this does work with "Dynamic NPC Armor Visuals" ? Moddb.com
If yes, in which order should both addons be loaded (overwrite)?
I dont think it will because that mod seems to be incompatible with the base HD models mod :/
It seems to work. I first install xray HD models, then your uniform mod (which overwrites some files from HD mod). aafter that I install the Dynamic Armor NPC mod I mentioned which doesn't overwrite any files. I would be happy if anybody else could also confirm this still. At least from what I saw it works.
Forget it, I thought you were Russian speaking)
That is, you just cut out the models with unwanted camouflage and did not replace them with anything?
I wish I could have just retextured the models, because the Mercenary ones you made looked great it was just the camo that was an issue.
All the mod does is change the pathing in the configs for the files, it does not delete the models, it just doesn't use them and instead paths to and uses models that have the desired color/camo.
I'll take a closer look at your files. Just at one of the stages, I deleted some stalker squads from those files that you changed. And it caused users to crash. So I'm wondering if you went my way or did it differently.
All I did was edit your Faction config files and change the model pathing, the reason why you got crashes was because you deleted stuff, I have used debug and spawned tons of squads just to make sure that nothing was incorrectly pathed (If I did not path something correctly it would cause crashes)
So I do not know why you deleted files, I mean that would of course cause a crash. And me and my friend have been using this for months, everything works fine.
Edit: it specifically just changes the <visual> pathing. For example,
<visual>actors\stalker_soldier\stalker_soldier1b</visual>
nothing else is touched but this ^
we did not understand each other) and I cannot express my thoughts more clearly.
Wait what??? This is not a retexture mod, instead it lowers the variety by excluding models? :((
I see that this is not a retexture. You have edited the spawn files of certain units. I just want to know if you have performed the tests to rule out annoying misunderstandings)
There is alot of variety even with the exclusions, go test it in game or dont use it, it works perfectly as intended.
edit: go into debug and spawn in multiple squads of a faction, you will see that there is still alot of variety.
Oh okay then I misunderstood the description. I thought you re-worked the textures in question.
I respect your work, but for me personally I will live with the original HD models then.
you could test it because you are jumping to conclusions, but whatever is enjoyable to the individual is what matters, cheers!
I did test it ingame with the two other Addons I mentioned and it works. However I was in the belief that the amount of models would still be the same. But with cutting out models instead of changing their camouflage the amount of repetition is increasing. For me personally, meeting duplicated stalkers is worse than not being to identify them at first sight. But again, that's me personally - I don't blame you or your mod. A retexture mod I would buy immediately however. :D
Would there be a way to simply reduce the frequency of them rather than removing, so the uniformity is more noticeable but we still get to see all of the nice models?
You can, you just need to assign the models to use only one camouflage texture, and not several as now. But you need certain skills in modding) I was thinking about this version of my mod, but there is not enough time to implement it yet.
This addon works with HD Models Lite?
is there a reshader u used for the disciption images ? can i get it too ^^ love the dyspopian grey all rainy felling
Sorry for such a late reply, if you are still wondering, I was using one of the PROSPERITY reshaders, I cannot remember which :/ I was also using Autumn Dark retexture for the environment
For a fairly new player in The Zone and who isn't playing with crosshair, this is a great mod. Cheers!
To me it just makes more sens that a faction would use (more or less) the same outfit to distingvis themselves from other factions.
does it work on 1.5.2? sorry for my English.
Wait so this mod removes the cringy colourful duty camouflage and other things?
Does this work with GAMMA?
