For today's update, we take a look at the UK's famous 95th Regiment of Foot (The Rifles).
The Rifles began life as the Experimental Rifle Corps, formed in early 1800 of the best men from a select 14 line regiments (in theory. In reality the regiments sent their most useless men). On christmas day 1802, they were numbered the 95th Regiment (having been simply "The Rifle Corps" since august 1800).
Commanded by Colonel Coote Manningham (which, I might add, is the perfect name for such a famously tough regiment), they were the only regiment in the British army equipped entirely with Rifles. The weapon is question being the Baker Infantry Rifle, a well built, if somewhat cheap, rifle accurate up to about 300 yards.
The 95th Rifles, and they're exploits in the Peninsular War, have since became famous thanks to several veteran's memoirs, aswell as modern fiction such as the Sharpe series.
Below are some screenshots of their uniforms and some ingame action featuring the Rifles.
This is all for now, thanks for following us. Keep an eye out for future news.
