Yes, it's true, the mod is dead! It's no joke! We have now reached a dead end. We are not able to fix the bugs and adding new stuff to this version makes no sense. Read the complete news for more information.

Hello guys and fans,

yes, it's true, the

mod is really dead!

You all have played the Final 1.0 and seen all the bugs, the whole half-finished stuff and so on.
The release came too early of course, but to be honest we had also worked very unorganized during the last months, so the bugs and this unfinished version was not more than a logical result!
We are now at the point, where it makes no sense to go on working on the mod. We can't fix some heavy bugs and adding new stuff to this version would simply not be useful.

That's why we need to bury the Stargate - EaW Final 1.0!
This means, there will be no addons, patches, updates or bug fixes anymore, the version stays as it is, although it is still far away from beeing complete.

Shocked? ^^
Well, now i'm going to tell you what we will do next:

A Stargate Mod for Empire at War

"Huah?"... "What the hell?"....
I know what you are thinking now, but actually it is quite simple!
We can't proceed with the current mod, so we must make it again, from the scratch!
We will code the whole mod again and while we are doing that, we will enhance all the models, textures, effects and animations too and even create a lot more.

We will not simply copy and paste the old stuff, but add things step by step, and after each step we will directly test the mod(what we have NOT done for the last version).
I believe with this decision we will be able to release a complete, bug free mod in some months again, that offers a lot more stuff than the current release.

"Some months" is a long time, but we have already planned something for the meantime. More information coming soon!

Just some last words:
1.: we still do NOT allow anybody to release mods of our mod! You can do what you want with it, but don't release it anywhere, thank you!
2.: don't forget to vote for us! Thank you again!^^
3.: Spinobreaker is still allowed to release his english patch which will contain some new units, a complete english text file and some more stuff.

That's it so far, have a nice week!

Bye,
SGMG

That was a very nasty trick. *wags finger*

And going step by step as you put stuff into a "master copy" will help immensely with bug hunting.

Good luck with 2.0! We'll still enjoy 1.0 in the meantime.

Although the rest of the English patching would be appreciated...

Yes, Spino is still allowed to release it, but it will be the last patch for the Final 1.0!

After two years of eagerly awaiting it, it's scrapped, and will have to wait another two or three years. :(

Not really 2 or 3 years... some months! We already have all the ships, effects, textures and so on, so we don't need to make again more than 100 models, like we had for the current version...
And apart from that, we needed exactly 14 months to make a complete new mod out of the Final 0.8!

this is indeed a very sad news. but, as stated (not exactly this way), i good thing will eventually come out of this. so, the new mod will remain on this mod page or you will create a new mod for SWEaW?

We will keep this profile, the new mod is still Stargate - Empire at War, but it gets another suffix like 2.0, "the second war" or something like that.
But i don't know why everybody is disappointed, do you want a version full of bugs or an even better one which is bug free? The only thing you must do is wait some more^^.

like i said before, something good will come out of this. it's only a matter of time. and Merlin & everyone else in the Dev team, take as much time as you need. we'll still be around here. just make a better thing that what you have done allready. cos it was a good thing. true, it had A LOT of bugs and so on, but people liked it (mainly because you really knew how to keep the public interest :D)
so, as Don S. Davis said on many different occasions "God Speed".

Well, some units/buildings will get new models, textures or/and animations, posting the list here would be a bit too much, but NOT all will be improved, cause in our oppinion we have already some that are really perfect^^.

Concerning the new content, well, just two words, "Pegasus galaxy", with everything you know from it. But this is only a part of the new planned stuff^^.

MerlinGalgotta Jan 26 2009, 4:48pm says:

Maybe, we thought about it and it depends exactly on two things:
- do we have enough people in the team to test it really intensively
- do these people have the time to test it really intensively
I think we must see how it is after the first few weeks. Our main goal is really to test the mod completely after each major change, and if we are not able to do that with the core team, we will establish a beta test team again.
If so, it will last not only two or three weeks, but during the complete developement time.
And yes, former active beta testers are welcome then^^.

personally i think FOC would be better because of the fleet scouting ability among other things, just like in the show have a cloaked jumper scout the fleet before you send in 304's.

Hey Merlin do you guys use SVN or is it all done by email cause if you don't use SVN i would recommend it, its a great way for all the mod team members to get together, also i dont know about the rest of them but i should be able to devote atleast 2-3 hours a day to testing if needed.

This news sucks. So you can't fix some bugs within 5 minutes so you're starting from new. There will be allways bugs be it in a mod or a full retail game. Try better to fix them instead of recreating everything from new. What garantees you that you wont be in the same situation in a few months?

Well what ever if you think that's the only way then do it good luck. I'm still disappointed it sounds the same like with version 1.0 like a wrong & speedy decision.
