Announcing The Great Forever Tomorrow's completion and release!

Posted by Zimmbous on Feb 2nd, 2009

Kiwi Productions is proud to release its second singleplayer mod: The Great Forever Tomorrow!
Do note that this is version 1.0 (ie not a beta). Head on over to our profile to get it (mod requires Half Life 2 Episode 2).

The mod features:
*Two new guns! (see below)*Original textures, complete with normal mapping.
*Original voice acting and music.
*An original story.
*A variety of gameplay (more than just combat).
*Surreal and over the top environments.

In honour of this, here are 3 new pictures! (yes, those are the two new guns... the white/blue one is a laser gun, and the green one fires flechettes)

This was interesting.. didn't finish it entirely though. It was a bit too long and repetitive for my taste. But good job anyway :)

It was nice.. Except two things:
At the finale.. There was a hell of a combines + small striders.. + rainbow colours. It all lagged to death.

and that too much playing of this makes ya ill:P
Nice mod. And loved the laser gun and flaschete.

Woh! Finally tried it after hearing about in on the last Modcast. Quite impressive actually. I must say that the windmill pipes in the first level was a brilliant bit of level design. I admit I used cheats to get to the end, as it gets insanely hard in parts. But it's more about what you see along the way that's fun. Over all it's a very good mod that you can't mistake for anything else. :)

I hate to be the negative nancy, but I don't think it was surreal enough as far as I played in it. The textures were kinda off in some spots like an AVS plugin threw up on the walls rather than being truely surrealist. There was however a really nice touch at the beginning with the windmill pipes, that entrance was creative and amazing. I'd have really liked it if you blended more realism with surrealism. It gets even more bizarre when you take the chaotic dream like state of surrealism and give it the ground with a little realism. Walking on the ceiling is grounded by the concept of a room for example. I'm getting very meta and artsy here, but I hope you understand.

Thanks for the input klichka :). During the development of the later, more colorful, parts of the mod, I (being the maker of these levels) was more thinking in terms of making them "vibrant" than actually surreal. This said, I agree with you: it certainly would be more powerful had it a more genuinely surreal edge. Perhaps we'll explore that in a later project.

I took the time to sign up with ModDB just to place a comment here and say that this mod is fantastic. It's own flaws add to the charm to it for me. The sketchy audio works greatly with the overly outrageous environments and armies of enemies coming at you while blasting epic rock music; its something to experience. If you partake in the gonja, it also makes it incredibly addictive, and the colors blew my mind hah, fantastic mod Zimmbous!
