Survival 101 is currently in the process of being ported over to Left 4 Dead. If you've played through the mod before, I strongly urge you to pay attention when we finally release these maps. This mod is getting a complete overhaul due to the superior L4D engine, and some improvements in mapping skill on my part. Left 4 Dead has some great models and props available and makes Survival 101 look better than ever.
The difference is absolutely astounding, and can be noted in the screen shots below. The comparison is similar to comparing HL1 to HL2.
Currently the first two maps are almost finished up and will most likely be merged together to form one 15-20 minute level. A demo of the map may be released at a later time. In other news, another mapper has come on board, and she's responsible for making the levels look pretty(adding props/decals) which is definitely going to make the release date sooner rather than later.
Also the mod/maps now has an official site, hosted at PCFPSReview.com/S101. Along with the new site, Survival 101 has ditched the old zombie hands design and is now using something a bit more appropriate.
Keep checking back in the coming weeks for a possible demo of the maps and more news on when they will finally be released.
cool
pls ion name of the lord. make a ultra hard campaing! PLEASE! :)
and yes i know this camp. is in WIP but tha maps need a better gesign!
good luck! :)
Yes, the gegisn^ is looking very basic.
If this shat had multiplayer i might play it and thats IF
Maps still look pretty simple.
Add some depth. Decals on walls. Some dirt in corners(between walls and floor) ect.
This is your first map(s) ?
Again with the maps - the rooms are too large/open. Cramp them up a little. Not only do close quarters add to the atmosphere, but when was the last time you actually entered a room that large?
The light on the last pic is needs to be tuned, looks unrealistic.
Hate to tell everyone, but the maps aren't done yet. While I do appreciate the constructive criticism, it really isn't quite time for it yet until you play through the maps.
And yes the light does need to be tuned.
They aren't pointing out "changes". They are simply criticizing one picture based on how big the room is. I will post some more shots of some rooms that are full of **** to satisfy everyones need to be cramped in junk. So comparing the Dead Air Finale which was wide open, to the Blood Harvest, which was harder? Being cramped in that small farmhouse was easy as hell to defend. Dead Air is another story however. Having more direction for zombies to run at you from is more of a means for ramping up the difficulty level.
To answer address another issue, there is no modifications being made to Left 4 Dead. Left 4 Dead is exactly the type of realism I want in Survival 101, which is why I'm only making maps for it. JUST MAPS, NO MODIFICATIONS. Survival 101 maps are going to be made into Left 4 Dead maps.
nice!
So is this a L4D mod or a HL2 mod with L4D stuff in it???
I think i'll stick with Left 4 dead rather then a port over 0.0
Why make a good game on a worse engine? doesnt make sence. Ohh well good luck
Left 4 Dead isn't being ported over to the HL2 engine. As you put it, its not a good idea. Survival 101 is being ported to L4D engine
Large box rooms with small amounts of stuff are actually a huge problem with beginning mappers. Make the architecture look real and functional, infact, take a look at your own house and get an idea. Normally you won't find a house that just has a big square box room that's 3x the size of your average room. Make it look practical and realistic as if someone would actually live there.
Truth be told, the map from the first two shots was the first map I made almost 2 years ago. Which is why I'm going back and updating it.
(in reply to NullSoldier) I think my house is an exception to this rule. :P But you're right that it can be harder to make something that's simple without making it look bland. I don't think that's really the point of these screens though. It's basically just a tech demo.
One thing I'd caution the mod team on is to not rely on the L4D assets too much. They may look great but they'll get old fast if that's all people see. You have to make this mod your own. So put some of your self in it. Good luck with the port!
I don't think there's much point uploading pics of a map that aren't ready to receive criticism. You'd probably get more positive feedback from giving us something at least half-way finished.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing what's to come...
where are they...just health bars? so lonely :(
Good idea, good luck ;)
Why would you make a survival zombie mod for L4D!???!
