A quick update of Paradox's music and story, as well as an in-depth look of the events of July 4th, 1969.

Posted by on

Apologies to the Resurrection team, as they have released world maps pertaining to their mod as well. Please note that this map shows where each faction is located and not necessarily the countries a faction controls. i.e. Empire technically owns the Bering Strait, though due to the harsh climate, they don't patrol the area with their forces.
Music Update
Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted anything related to this mod. I'd like to let you know that we have completed all the music for our mod's first release, so I'll be taking a break from the tunes for a while.

Story Update
We've been focusing a lot on actual mod content for a long time now, which is good, but we haven't really yet revealed the story of Paradox. I'll let you guys know that it can get pretty confusing, and even us developers have dozens of maps hanging around just to keep track of all the little things that happen within the Paradox universe. Each faction will have its own 18 mission campaign, except the Talon, which will have a 9-mission "prelude" to the events that initiate Paradox. Not only that, but each campaign will take place in its own separate timeline and don't all start at the same time either. Our plan is to have several different major events which happen throughout multiple campaigns, but depending on the side you play as, the outcome will be vastly different - in fact, that's why we called the mod "Paradox". Technically, the true "canon" of the mod is really up to the player and their decisions.
Below I've included a small in-universe excerpt of the events happening on July 4th, 1969, which marks the start of the Confederate campaign. Enjoy :D

July 4th, 1969
Hello and welcome to the 6:30 news. I'm your host, Kate Ashbury with today's international headlines.

The decade-long Chinese Civil War has come to a bloody close since the Royalist Party took the country by storm. We're on the line with Jim Chang, our Eastern political expert. Hello Jim.

Hello Kate. There certainly has been a lot of activity here in the orient, with Vietnam converting to Communism and by now everyone knows of the horrors going on in Korea, but as the dust settles from the last Great War, we can see that China is the first to come to a steady peace. The Royalist Party seemingly came out of nowhere with some quite outlandish ‘atomic' technology which they boast can destroy entire cities in mere seconds. As you can imagine, the Allied Nations are nervous, since the Royalists haven't attended any of the peace negotiations going on in Europe, and aren't necessarily aligned with either Allies or Soviets. It isn't quite clear what their goals are, but from the sound of things, it doesn't look like they're vying for world domination just yet. Back to you, Kate.

Thanks Jim. In a related story, scientists and international journalists have been barred from entering the new Kingdom of China. The new government has created censorships bans on many television and radio stations in concert with the media and research blackout. Among the groups denied entry is a team of astronomers wishing to study remnants of a meteor from a shower more than two months ago. Reportedly, this meteor was just a fragment of a much larger one still in far orbit around the Sun; unfortunately, any additional information regarding the meteorite has been censored by the Chinese government.
In Berlin, there is a new wall under construction that will divide Germany in two, separating the East and West - the Communist parties from the Democrats. The divide has been highly controversial and has sparked riots on both sides of the wall. The United Kingdom has announced that Riot Agents are now being recruited throughout Europe to keep the peace in urban zones as more and more riots break out in the streets of many major cities. The riots are in part due to the Allied Nations' decision to appoint nation leaders instead of the parties elected by the populace, in the interest of world stability. The riots have become even more intense today, as a large group of American patriots calling themselves the Confederates gather outside the White House to protest against what they call "a disgrace to democracy and to the independence of the USA." The Confederates are a known terrorist group and are infamous for their raids in the southern United States.

A mysterious cult unveiled itself in Sarajevo unexpectedly over the weekend, as its main church was discovered, though it was burnt to the ground and all of its members were found dead. Among the fisted red banners of the cultists, local security discovered the stencil of an eagle commonly found on such ruined sites recently. The Allies have mobilized an investigative team to discover the identity of both the cultists and their killers, the third such incident this year and the closest yet to a major population center.

In business news, the Mediterranean Syndicate has avoided yet another trial regarding questionable use of government-issued grant money. The mega-corporation, which constructs various military battlesuits and specialty weapons, claims that their money was used for the research of steel applications to reinforce building superstructure. However, numerous reports as well as the company's shady history point to the manufacturing of weapons and technology commonly found on the black market. An inquiry has been in negotiations for the last three months, but there is no set date for it yet.
FutureTech, the Mediterranean Syndicate's business rival, announced yesterday that they are "back on track" after the sudden murder of senior executive Arnold Schwartz. In the announcement they released footage of a new line of military technology being employed in the armed forces of the Allied Nations. The set of experimental vehicles employs various types of physics-altering weaponry. The rising controversy over the use of said technology does not deter the Allies from utilizing them, however. FutureTech stocks have declined by 2.3% in the last month, before rising slightly at today's close. The decline is likely due to the closer relations between the Allies and Japanese Empire, which is leading to the sharing of technology, and less dependence on other weapons suppliers.

That's all for today at the 6:30 news, we'll leave you with some images of the bizarre robots spotted near the coast of Japan. More than 200 pictures have been collected from various sources, and while experts still negate any theories involving aliens, the Empire has stated that they took no part in the development of these metal monsters. The question remains: Just who exactly created these robots, and what are they designed for?

I'm Kate Ashbury, thanks for watching.

They said Talon were in the prelude. So I assume that they got wiped out just before all this started???

Essentially, groups of communist rebels in Chile and Uruguay overturned the government. They play a part in the Soviet campaign.

Argentina don't like so much the Englishs, why is with them?
I'm not being nationalist, i'm being logic and i'm asking too

After the Cold War,in 1833 they took the Falklands/Malvinas isles. It's rare a threat with them, and so much sectors of politics are more socialists than capitalists

But the Protectorade is in the south, in Punta Arenas, occupying Tierra del Fuego and thats make logic a union with them, because Allies are near the problem

But is rare English making friendships with Argentinians

IMO the Confederates and the Talon's territories are too small, though I'd think that they expands throughout the campaign.

its possible that the talon have been nearly wiped out so they dont have much territory left and the confederate just began fighting the allies so they dont have much territory.but thats just a Guess

Well I don't want to give the whole story away of course. I can say definitively that the first level of the Confederate campaign is the first strike that actually gains them any control over the USA. Before that they were just a group of 'terrorists' (called that by the Allies of course - they call themselves 'patriotic') that were centralized in Texas. The Talon are a little more secretive, though - I'll suffice it to say that they aren't looking to become a world superpower, nor do they want to be noticed by the public.

Does the talon have something to do with the paradox? seeing as they have the prelude.

The titular Paradox was the result of the death of Hitler, followed by the death of Hitler's killer before the murder was to happen. This time-confusion made the laws of physics very, very upset, and so history got a lot more complicated than it could have been.

Btw Kerensky, i know about Ra history. It just seemed funny that the TALON has the prelude, seeing as they just came out of the blue.

Or is it events from the talon that we are talking about? (meaning, how our new gdi-religous hybrid friends came about. would be a nice name for a comedy, order at home).

The Talon campaign takes place during the war from RA3 and shows some behind the scenes events that lead up to the story of Paradox.

Sorry for my earlier comment... I think I intended for it to have a point but forgot a concluding sentence.

But yeah, the Talon are essential to a certain behind-the-scenes plot element that will be revealed in the Paradox campaign. They have the prelude because something happens to change the status quo at around the time of the prelude, and it makes the most sense for that change to be seen from the Talon perspective.

Aha, i catch your drift. Your saying that SOMETHING happened in the third world war and this SOMETHING is best seen from the talon's point of view (i think i know what SOMETHING is, but i'm not going to say it in case i happen to be right ). Two questions, the Talon has the prelude because the other three didn't win Ra3, am i right? and secondly, does it also have something to do with the fact that there are THREE Tib references(Order=Gdi, cultists=Nod, meteorite= Tiberium came out of space)? If you can't tell me, it's fine. Then i'll wait.

I would guess that, with their enemy, the first three factions and
4 new factions, not everyone is a lot of people (or is it just a couple of the human/robot(last if your talking Ep) factions mentioned before?).

I'm not sure what you mean by "not everyone is a lot of people", but I think you're guessing that some of the factions are smaller compared to the others. That would be correct - the Confederates and Order of the Talon have much fewer supporters than most of the others, at least at the beginning.

I mean that those guys wouldn't exactly be loved by the rest of the factions and the Nod look alike. Thus meaning that the whole fighting gang doesn't like them (or most of them(at the beginning at least, it seems)).

Wait... I thought RA3 took place in 2015 (seeing as the Allies had about the same tech level from the 1970s in RA2).

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Due to the generally ambiguous nature of the RA timelines we had a lot of options as to when to set the game. Eventually I settled on the 1960s for a variety of reasons.
1. Familiarity : The idea of a hyperagressive Soviet Union and a 25 year old Japanese Empire in the 60s closer to reality then a continued Soviet Union six years into the future and Japan pulling off a 60+ year long isolation in the modern world.
2. Historical Parallel : The 60s gave us the Cuban Missile Crisis, social unrest in the American South, the reveal of the "new" China with nuclear capabilities and world-spanning ambition, the Vietnam War, the first cries of environmentalism and anti-corporate opinion in the face of the first super corporations, early computing and robotics, the Space Race, and many other themes that are paralleled in Paradox's story. And who doesn't see Nixon in Pres. Ackerman?
3. Grounding : By setting the game in the 60s we could establish certain motifs and ideas that would add character to the universe. The Allied Experimental Workshop has magnetic tape computers on it, lasers (SPECTRUM) is brand new and impressive, the Electrical Protectorate are controlled with punchcards, Japan is just entering the electronics market, the Avro Arrow (Achilles) is alive and flying, quantum physics is a new and limitless science, and colour TV is a recent invention. This means that when we use elements like cloaking devices or flat-screen computers or robots they seem more fantastical and interesting by comparison. The game goes from off-the-wall speculative fiction back to the concept of a weird Cold War gone hot.

Yeah... But I thought the whole point of Red Alert as a series was that the evolution of technology was twisted and put back by the combined loss of World War 2 and Albert Einstein. But hey, your mod, you do what works best.

The previous games in the series have all taken advantage of historical parallel and I think that losing that by setting it in the future would be a grave mistake.

Yeah the Red alert timelines never did make sense to me. But I guess thats the point isn't it? To be wierd and not realistic at all.

I mean if RA1 happened in 1950 (or so) why are their GAP Generators, Abrams tanks, and Invincibility generators (Iron Curtain)? Because tech got screwed up by the lack of WWII, also because they had to follow up C&C TD wth some equally cool stuff.

RA2 was a disappointment since I wanted to see a continuation of the Tiberium-Red Alert linkage. You guys should hint at that, make it seem like the Tiberium and Red Alert universes are connected, it just takes crazy time Paradox's to get there. If you did, I'd love you forever, and eva!

What makes you think that we've not linked it? Um, Order of the Talon? While they physically can't be the same universe due to some time travel, there are connections.

sgtNACHO
sgtNACHO - - 212 comments

I thought the symbol and closeness to the Steel Talons, was because their just that awesome.

But they are connected to GDI, very nice :)

i think you should make it a physical connection, is Hitler or Einstein ever mentioned in the Tiberium Universe? No is the Brotherhood of Nod and GDI mentioned in Red Alert? yes! So you could easily say that Kane in RA1 wasn't wrong, and that Nod will rise up, due to these Paradoxes in time. Maybe Kane knew about these Time travel efforts because he is that cool.

Its your mod but I wanted to see some very direct connections, but I'm fine with some small little relativities.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Sorry to say this, but the Brotherhood of Nod as we know it in any shape or form will not appear in Paradox. Also, the GDI did exist in Red Alert as a branch of specialized Allied soldiers, then evolved into the force we know in the Tiberium Universe when NOD showed up. So, they technically aren't related to the Talon directly (but the logo and the eagle will be the main subject of the Talon's Prelude). That's not to say there won't be more references in Paradox, just not in the traditional sense.

Uhm, is there a reference to Kane in it?. I just heard somewhere that someone in the game (coughJacobcough) is/sounds like Kane. Hint: it was somewhere in Datalog 12c. just confirm or deny the rumor (or answer with "i can't share this information at the moment as that would spoil stuff", it really sounds professional)

I think the storyline is completely viable. If humanity had been in massive conflict it is undeniable that major advances would have been made. In WW2 we got the jet engine, helicopters, Internet, computers, radar, tank suspension, modern combat rules and the nuke. Whilst the advancement of military technology would have been massive, hardly any of these inventions would be reflected to the masses, as social technology would not have evolved (e.g. computers, T.V's). Japan would without a doubt be the best social nation due to their absence from the war for so many years, but Nikolai Tesla's ideas would have been weaponised, instead of being used to enhance radio. There would be no massive scale cars due to conservation of fuel, so, I think their universe is better than ours. The Allies get Hydrogen fuels to power their lasers. In fact, I'm off to live there. Goodbye.
