Post news Report RSS Snatcher Mod Update!

It's been a long time since I've posted news, so here's what is going on!

I know I've been talking about the mod moving to the NEW CryEngine for a long time now...

IF it was up to me (and not Crytek) it would have happened already! LOL!

The good news is : The "Free CryEngine SDK" (Like EPIC's UDK) will FINALLY be released in August 2011!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the recent updates???

I know the Gillian Seed model is still very early WIP, and doesn't feature his "Trenchcoat" yet...
Metal Gear still needs work, and I haven't shown any of the re-modeled (high poly) level work yet.
There are many things I'm working on, or have put on hold until the move, but it will get done!

I wish I had some more news, but I'll just have to wait and see what happens in August...
I'm still working on things behind the scenes, although updates might lacking until the big move!

I thank you ALL for supporting this mod!

I'm pretty excited to be getting my hands on the new engine as well!
There are so many great new engine features that will benefit this mod/game.

If Crytek keeps the promises made (documentation, access to code, regular updates and bug fixes) a golden age for CryEngine based indie game development will begin. I truly hope the potential of CE3 will be properly exploited by us devs and we'll create games beyond the level of pure multiplayer or more casual gameplay.

Since we at open Outcast already did some research in terms of Singleplayer/Adventure game modifications for Crysis Wars, and still need some time till the final release, it may be an idea to create a code pool with commonly needed stuff (such as a more sophisticated dialogue system, inventory, alternative camera (3rd person) and friendly NPC AI). The code of the devs sharing it would get more optimized/stable this way and others would obviously have a good point to start.

I think CryEngine 3 just screams for being used to create vast outdoor levels and games with a good degree of freedom such as the GTA or Elder Scrolls series (and Outcast of course! :P). For such projects to succeeded tons of assets are needed though, and due to the power of CE3 the expected level of quality is pretty high. If we quickly are able to prove that the CE3 SDK is at least comparable to UDK in terms of flexibility by some impressing (tech) demos right from the start, I'm sure we could pull some artists on "our side" what would benefit any CE3 based project.

But well that's just future talk... back to work =)
