With Sins of a Solar Empire 2 finally being announced, what are Stellar Parallax's plans for the future?

Posted by on

Well folks, it’s official – Sins of a Solar Empire 2 is on its way! Huzzah!

Yes, after 15 years Stardock Entertainment and Ironclad Games have finally announced the long awaited sequel to this great 4X strategy game, which serves as the platform for many great and popular mods, including Armada 3 and Ages of the Federation.

Naturally, there will undoubtedly be many questions about what this means for Stellar Parallax. We’re going to do our best to answer some of the more common questions here in a handy little FAQ session.

“What do you know about Sins 2?”

In truth, very little. Stardock and Ironclad have been very good at keeping this project under wraps, so we probably don’t know much more than you do. We suggest checking the game’s website.

“Will Stellar Parallax be modding Sins 2?”

At the moment that’s the plan, but until we familiarise ourselves with the game and, just as importantly, get our hands on the proper modding tools, we can’t commit to anything.

“Will AOTF be porting to Sins 2?”

The short answer is no. An enormous amount of work has already gone into the re-release of AOTF and porting it onto a new platform that we’re unfamiliar with would be a great undertaking. It’s not as simple as copy/pasting, sadly.

“Where can I get me a piece of that sweet, sweet Orion?”

Orion is happily tri-self-partnered but can be summoned by loudly and repeatedly imitating the mating call of the Rufous Hornbill, preferably in a crowded setting. You’ll be paying for everything as he doesn’t believe in money. Or Belgium.

“What about Armada 3?”

We’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished with Armada 3, and we’re certainly very happy that so many of you are still enjoying it. Even so, we consider that project to be complete. Sins 1 is still awesome, people!

“Will there be an Armada 4 for Sins 2?”

No. Any future Star Trek projects may be set in the TNG/DS9 period, but if we go down that path we’ll be doing something quite different - too different to bear the illustrious name of ‘Armada’. And at any rate, Armada 3 was always intended to be a tribute and spiritual successor to the fantastic Activision games of the early 2000’s. We’re content to leave it there.

“Will plans change for AOTF2?”

Undoubtedly, but exactly how we have yet to decide. We’ll see once we have more information.

That sums up our 'plans' as they stand at the moment. Hopefully your more pressing questions have been answered. If not, you can join in the discussion on our Discord.

Until next time, be good. But not too good.

It's exclusive to the chinese botnet, not even gonna look at it.

Too bad, they repeated the mistake they made with galciv4 which nobody is playing Galciv4.com

One year exclusive that's pretty much only for its early access period. It's pretty much a guarantee that the game will release on Steam.

I don't know where you got your info, the devs are eluding the question. galciv4 has been out (as early access and now as a "full" game) for more than a year and it's still not on any other storefront.

Direct from CEO of Stardock on their forums in response to "how long will Epic exclusivity last?": "Yea, we can't discuss that as you can imagine. But we intend to be on all platforms eventually."

That may or may not have been my cousin. The genetics aren't conclusive.
