There have been many things going on with Radium, good and bad

Posted by on

So, it's been a while since an update and a lot has changed. I'm not going to try and get this news post on the moddb front page as I don't feel it's necessary.

So, first of all, a very important member of our team, ddraig/burguiois, can no longer work on the mod. I don't think he'd want me to go into details, but he's very much missed. Let's hope things get sorted and he's back with us soon.

Secondly, Radium is no longer a mod for Call of Pripyat: we are now a mod for Call of Chernobyl.

This was done for a variety of reasons. One reason is that our team has shrunk a great deal and we simply do not have the time, energy, or patience to make a full blown COP mod. Call of Chernobyl is an excellent mod and we are easily able to port over almost all of our work to it. It is true that we are scaling back what this mod was going to be into something a little more...realistic, but it will still be a lot of fun to play.

YeiZone has returned to us after a bit of a hiatus, so please welcome him back :)

Currently there are a lot of things going on with the mod which are good. I have been working on the rendering a great deal and have recently added gloss map and displacement map support. We are also carefully going through textures in the game and carefully picking and choosing what would look best and what won't. Yei has also made progress with a surge related feature ddraig had been wanting as well as FMOD support.

Working on Radium has been quite a roller coaster for all involved, and not necessarily for good reasons (I'm most to blame for that).

I am hoping that once Radium is done and shipped out, although I previously planned to ditch Xray for good, I would instead like to learn a lot more in the way of C++, LUA, and various rendering languages, so that I can work with some others hopefully on making a new engine to base Stalker off of. To say Xray has issues is an understatement. It's not a fun engine to work with.

That's all I have for now guys. I'll post more substantial news in the future, I just didn't want to leave you guys hanging.

Well I cant say that im too sad about the change since all i have been playing the last few weeks is Call of Chernobyl. It has a ton of replayability thanks to its dedicated team working in updates, but alsow to modders that share their work as addons. The entire game can be easily custom built by the players taste, and having Radium on the list sounds like a bright future for both CoC and radium itself.

Whatever happens, I just hope you guys can pull it through. Good luck to everyone involved on this project. I humbly await for more news.

Well, there goes the only mod I was looking forward to. It seems waiting for a decent mod for vanilla game was a silly idea after all. Too bad it turned out like this.

Radium isn't an addon for CoC. It's an independent mod using it as a base to build from.

I see both good news, CoC needs such a great mod to be merged with, after all, it's a base platform. Plus, it still has COP maps included :D
