I was bored and started my usual meaningless projects to have my brain going.Richard vanbeck noticed my post about this project and wrote that he have thought about doing a dungeon crawler for a long time.So with my knowledge about his skills so was it not hard for me to invite him and see where this would lead.
While vanbeck painted some of the great pixel art we now use so did I start to try to make this in to a basic game engine :)Added floor/ceiling heights in to the simple tile editor as we still wanted a super easy mod function even for a small screen on mobile phones.I even started to learn some small things about shaders on mobile devices and added some extra fx.
And to get that right old ray caster look so did we write our own fake 3d sprite function. Its more complicated then it looks as it have a single plane always rotated towards the camera. And a small function that always calculates wath angle is displayed towards the camera of the character it self and paste the right image on the plane. The ugly skeleton is my handy work while van worked on the art.
Some early tests on a mobile device to see that it runs ok there. That silly voice is actually me with a bad English ;)
Started to get some of the artwork from van and he wrote the particle and projectile engine. Our game have custom coded particle, projectile and billboard functions mostly because app game kit are still in its beta stages with a lot of basic 3d commands not added to there core engine. When they release stable builds with more functions will we probably replace many of our custom built ones.
This is our current state of the game with bugs we want you guys to report :) Be patient with our slow pace of developing this game as we do this for fun and love game making with a lot of projects in the pipeline. We know it have a few ai bugs I will fix for the next build.Kudos to van for the super cool retro c64 boot and credits screen. He is a man with many talents.
So now please download and let us know! Stuff you want added. Bugs. Other crashes.
Awesome.
Thanks!
