This mod aims to recreate the atmosphere of 17th century colonialism by the European Empires. The mod replaces ETW models with 17th century ones, fixes the pikeman animation and changes region ownerships and faction religions to reflect the period as closely as possible. Transylvania is now a non-playable protectorate of the Ottoman empire, while Portugal is a Protectorate of Spain as during the Iberian Union. Many new units and 17th century music and leader portraits and new campaign map models

Install as follows: First delete other mods from the ETW data folder which is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Empire Total War\data.. Then download here. Also download this crashfix here. NB in instructions below, "yourusername" means whatever your PCs username is.

1.Place user.empire_script in C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts. Delete the previous scripts already located there first.

2. From the first download, Place 1600_naval_007.pack, Col_loc_en.pack, Col_music, Col_scripts, Col_models.pack, Col_ui.pack, colmod.pack, Colo_events.pack, Pikeman_animation_MOD.pack, and patch_general_andy's_musket_sounds.pack in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Empire Total War\data.

3. From the patch.rar file, extract Colmod.pack over the original, in the Data folder. When asked do you want to replace the original of the same name, click Yes.

4.. Next place startpos.esf in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Empire Total War\data\campaigns\main. Start ETW as normal.

The new startpos starts in 1607. I thought that was appropriate because that is when the first permanent English colonies were founded in the continental Americas.

If you have problems with the startpos you can default to the CA one by selecting "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" in Steam, but then the game will start in 1700 instead.

Changes:
Additional French officer models and battle flags (based on Thirty Years War French flags). New units including Gardes Francaises Pikemen, early flintlock musketeers, French drummer model.

New Irish units including: Kern, Gallowglasses, O'More Pikemen, Light Pikemen. New Irish officer model. NB Ireland remains an emegent faction.

New Brandenburg-Prussian grenadier models. German factions have a new German swordsman unit.

New Maltese pikemen and drummer/officer,

New battle flags for England and France. New naval flag for Portugal.

Historical religion for Wurtemmberg and Saxony (Protestant). Saxony no longer Protectorate of Poland.

New ship models/textures courtesy of Bethencourt (forum member at twcenter.net)
Also there is a script which makes certain early units unavailable later in the period, and certain late units unavailable early in the period. Credits to terryman from twcenter.net/forums for that.

I would recommend placing it in steamapps/common/Empire Total War/data folder.

The Mod manager does not recognize nor find the files. But it does find other test files... Weird.

How does the manager work? There are NO boxes to tick...

Are Common.dll, ModManager.exe and ModManager.exe.xml the only 3 files that should be in it?

I like the look of this mod, I want to play it but how do you expect me to do that if the method for installation described won't work? And don't think I haven't looked at the forum thread for the mod manager, the genuine problem-solvers seem to be as reticent as those here.

Update: I edited my user.empire_script file to contain these lines and only these lines:

mod Col_loc_en.pack;
mod Col_models.pack;
mod Col_ui.pack;
mod Colo_events.pack;
mod new.pack.pack;

The game crashed upon loading, now would someone please break the wall of silence and help a would-be fan out?

You had made a mistake,on "mod new.pack.pack, it is supposed to be "mod new.pack;",and other thing,when you edited it,did text encoding set to Unicode?(because Empire won't accept ANSI .txt files.)

Thanks, does the mod have to be loaded with the manager, every time?

You do not have to unless if you enable "new" and launch for the first time,because Mod Manager will remember what mod you had enabled.

That's the one I've been using, not a tickable box in sight, at least for me.

Make sure the boxes marked "show all pack files" and and "vanilla conflicts" are NOT ticked and you should then see the tickable box for the "new" file.

It does work. You are supposed to run it alongside Colonialism 1600AD. If you are running Modmanager I recommend you put Modmanager in a different folder from ETW. Read tips for avoiding CTDs here. Twcenter.net

Okay here is an alternative to using Modmanager.

Go to C:\Users\(yourusernamehere)\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts and delete all the files except user.empire_script. Then open user.empire_script and edit it so it says the following. and then save.

mod "new.pack";
mod "Col_models.pack";
mod "Col_ui.pack";
mod "Colo_events.pack";

Then run ETW through Steam as normal WITHOUT Modmanager.

Why does it require I put the files outside the Empire Total War Folder?
