Colonialism 1600AD is a 17th century mod for Empire Total War. The mod will also reflect the changes from diverse to more uniform military dress, the decline of armour, the transition from arquebus-to-matchlock-to-flintlock muskets and from pike to bayonet.

To install: Place in the Empire Total War Data folder and start Modmanager. Select "New" and Launch. The other files are patches and run automatically. To install the startpos file: install to the campaigns/main folder inside tbe Data folder. When run with Colonialism 1600AD, the startpos file resets the grand campaign starting date to 1600 and activates custom historical events, corrects historical ruler names/ages. Important: remove other mods from the Data folder first to avoid conflicts/crashes. Also follow the tips here to avoid CTDs.

To uninstall remove all the files whose filenames begin with "col" and also remove the "new.pack" file.

The mod starts in 1600 so no trading companies. However longterm I will make a submod with the trading companies.

I was able to get this mod to work on Linux, but changes had to be made.
First, you must rename every pack so that there are no capital letters. If any mod pack has a capital letter, the game will immediately crash with a segmentation fault. Second, apparently Feral Interactive did not program the game to check for a user.empire_script.txt file so you must put the mods into the preferences.empire_script.txt file (which gets overwritten whenever the game closes so it is a good idea to mark the file as read only).
