Today the central powers are getting reinforcements in the likes of the German “Unteroffizier”. The Unteroffizier is the officer role players can assume when choosing the German “Landser” squad in Verdun.
This pictures shows the officer in its 1914 outfit, with the iconic jackboots and m1910 tunic. In addition this unteroffizier is wearing the infantry officers’ schirmmutze and a holster for both the luger and a binoculars. Also note the M1895 knapsack with the cowhide cover, which will identify the early-war landser squads in-game.
During the early days of the war the German officers distinguished themselves with their combat initiative and dynamic leadership, being allowed great freedom by their superiors.
The German army was also well known for its discipline, and officers were expected to supervise their soldiers even when they were free, going so far as to keep an eye on them in the latrine as well. Yet this discipline ensured that German infantry were one of the best trained and drilled infantry in Europe. Stay tuned for more when we show the mid- and late-war unteroffizier!
