So it's been almost a month since Mission Improbable Parts 1 and 2 was released. I thought I'd make a small timelapse movie which shows how a map evolves during development.
The video shows how one area in Part 2 changed, with multiple resets, tests and finally the released version in the end. A similar difference can be seen throughout the level, with almost nothing ending up how it was planned in the beginning. I find these timelapse movies very interesting, and I hope you will too!
And now a small update regarding Part 3. The nice summer weather is interfering with progress, up until now I've only gotten around to prototyping some of the puzzles that will go into the map along with some paper design on layout and design ideas. Later this week I'm going on a 2 week vacation, once I get back I will most likely start doing layout tests in the engine and work towards getting something playable.
Anyway, hope you all enjoy the video and also that you have a nice summer!
If you haven't played Mission Improbable yet then please proceed to the downloads section for parts 1 and 2!
That's brilliant. Has anyone else put out similar time lapses for Source before? Would be cool to see some more.
Well actually theres a bunch on youtube. Nice though Liked it!
Valve also released two timelapse movies (both of which were probably NOT made in Windows Movie Maker :) ) for a TF2 map. They can be seen here :

This mod and Research and development have made the wait for new half life games much more endurable. Keep up the good work :)
wow! great movie of the building of a level, and compleating it.
and i simply can't start to imagen how much time this will have taken you to make it. and then i don't mean the time to added this movie and put it together. but the time it took to compile the map in each time, then start it in Hl2 and record it, and start over again. this will have taken at least a day or more.
i have been thinking about doing this too with one of my own maps, but i never came further then only 3 or 4 images.
nice work !!!
and i think it does give a great inside in mapping all together to those people who don't have a clue how maps are made.
