Introducing the new foliage system coming in the next update

Posted by captain_deathbeard on Jan 19th, 2012

Coming in the next couple of weeks is the foliage system.  For now there is only going to be the one environment type, but more will be made at a later date when the world map is expanded to full size.

Thanks to the income from the games sales I was able to hire Vurt, a great artist famous for his foliage improvement mods for all the Elder Scrolls games.  It really shows, check out the video below.

That's awesome! I"ve even downloaded a few texture packs from Vurt for the Elder Scrolls (loved em). The new foliage breathes some new life into the landscape and it's looking nice. Keep up the great work guys!

That foliage looks awesome, I hope you don't 'overpopulate' the map with veg though I actually thought the huge desert expanses looked pretty awesome and made you as the player feel small in a bleak world!

I bought Kenshi through the website, not knowing it was on Desura. Is there any way to activate my key on desura?

Agave (and other cacti/suculents) doesn't grow in the fine shifting sands found in dunes. I'd place more, not less vegetation on mountaintops where the soil is better compacted.

Also, if you need inspiration from other games, I suggest looking at Far Cry 2 (vegetation), FUEL (landscape), and Battlefield 3.

I actually liked the only desert feeling like FamousSpear said. But if you not overdo it, it'll be ok ;)
