Hello everyone!
This week we wanted to post an update on the status of the wide scale release of our engine test. If you missed the initial announcement on the mailing list, the engine test is a runnable version of the engine designed to help us tune the performance, compatibility, and networking prior to the release of the Natural Selection 2 alpha. In addition to helping us smooth out any problems, anyone that's downloaded the Spark Level Editor can see their creations in game, and aspiring mod makers can experiment with the included Lua code.
After the announcement of the engine test a month ago, we started testing with a small group of people outside the company, and (not unexpectedly) we discovered some critical issues that needed to be addressed. For the past month we've been working on improving network reliability, optimizing the Lua interface and tightening up the graphics. Now that these problems are almost resolved, we're planning on releasing the engine test to everyone that's pre-ordered (either edition) on April 9th.
Since this is a test, we expect there will be some more bumps in the road, but we know you're all excited to start exploring the world of Natural Selection 2, and we're excited to share it with you!
I can't wait to start playing around with making mods, even if I'll be forced to write in LUA. :(
You guys are great developers! You are so connected and friendly with the community and plus such a great game at only 19.95! Wow could you guys get any better?
I especially like that alien dude on the ceiling. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be writing this message.
if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't writing this one in response.
He is totally going to pwn the nooblet marine in front of him.
Sooner than i thought
Wow, what a great birthday present :D
Wehee! Can't wait to try it, and the release is a day before my birthday. Thanks guys!
The game will definitely receive more attention and be a lot easier for players and their friends to communicate if it is available on Steam. Though it isn't too much of a big deal. I can just "Add Non-Steam Game" and still be able to Shift+Tab chat on Steam. :)
Of course there is also those of us who use other programs like xfire for all their ingame communication needs, and then some.
Nah, definitely release this shiz through Steam, you's deserve it.
Man this is going to be the best game in history of alien vs human :D
but not better then Duke Nukem too bad its taking forever to relese it :<
That's why its called Duke Nukem ´Forever´, i think it just a commercial trick.
Great to hear spark(or whatever it is) engine test starts soon!
