Desura, our digital distribution startup was among 5 finalists, picked today by an expert panel of judges in the GamesBeat@GDC Who's Got Game competition. The judges included VentureBeat's Dean Takahashi, lead writer for GamesBeat; Jamil Moledina, outreach director at Electronic Arts Partners; Jeremy Liew, managing director of Lightspeed Venture Partners; and Eric Goldberg, managing director of Crossover Technologies. Their criteria included degree of innovation, potential for business success, and concept freshness.
Desura will join Atmosphir, BeanJar, Sibblingz and Turiya on stage at GamesBeat@GDC San Francisco on March 10th, 2010. There we will have five minutes to pitch our company and field questions from the judges. Our presentation will focus on the product, and "our goal of creating a community-driven, developer-run, open digital distribution platform for PC games". This is a very exciting opportunity for us, and a great chance for us to introduce free user-made content to the gaming world. YouTube did it for video, Flickr for images, and now Desura will do this for PC games.
For information about the conference or Desura, visit the GamesBeat 2010 and Desura websites respectively. If you are at GDC I encourage you to stop by and introduce yourself. Looking forward to meeting gamers, press and investors in San Francisco and spreading the word. Desura is currently in private beta and should be launching in late April. If you want access to the beta get in touch.
