Hey guys!
City Climber is being released this Friday (the 24th), and I would like to talk about some of the progress that had been made since it passed Greenlight and show off some of it`s new features!
First of all...
I would like to sincerely thank you for all your amazing support!
I`m working on City Climber alone, so it really helps to see, that there are people who are looking forward to playing it!
I posted my first article about my small project , here on IndieDB on Oct 9th, 2015. It was a long shot, but somehow I managed to get through Greenlight and end up on Steam! I`ve learned a lot about design, and basically improved all my game-dev skills.
Achievements and Leaderboards
They are both implemented through the Steam API. I got a ton of help from my friend Tomas, who designed icons for the achievements, badges, backgrounds, emoticons and trading cards.
Gameplay
Game currently contains 14 story levels. They are mainly focused around climbing through various environments and overcoming obstacles. Average play-through time is around 2-3 hours. You can also play with a friend in local Co-op mode, where your character changes into a small robot with two differently colored arms. Each player controls only one arm, so you need to be really coordinated!
Challenges
Game also contains several silly challenge-modes. People seem to really enjoy ragdoll physics of the character, so I decided to create several "minigames" where you can fullfil your ragdoll needs! There are currently 3 challenge modes and each of them contains 10 levels. Overall it takes around 60 minutes to complete them all. You can see gameplay from challenges in the second part of the trailer above.
You can also enjoy challenges with friends by playing party mode. It is a turn-based competitive local multiplayer for up to 4 players. Each player is given a random set of challenges that he has to complete. Main difference from classic singleplayer, is that you only have one try for each challenge, and earn points if you mannage to pass it. Player with the most points wins!
Future...
I`m really happy about how City Climber turned out. I would like to continue my work on the game and add more playable content/player requested features. Of course, it all depends on how will be the game doing after the release.
I`m also reaching out to various content creators, and first gameplay videos are starting to appear. This one is one of my favourites:
