Release plans and new capital ships for everyone except the New Republic. They know what they did.

Posted by on

It's now just over two months since the release of the 1.0 beta, and with the official release of Rebellion 1.83 nowhere in sight, we've decided to make some executive decisions. We have a ton of major changes we really want to get in the mod for 1.1 but can't since we want to make sure 1.0's full release is out first and doesn't break anything else. Instead of waiting on the 1.83 patch to come through, we'll be releasing the full 1.0 for both 1.82 and the 1.83 opt-in beta, and just hoping that nothing they change between the beta and the final 1.83 release requires us to fix anything else.

We have a list of all the changes here, however there's one major area which I want to address separately; capital ships. Some people have mentioned wanting a fifth capital ship for the Remnant. While they technically already have a fifth capital ship built in a different way (the World Devastator), which is also arguably the most powerful in the game, we are adding three new capital ships to the mod for 1.0; the Lucrehulk for the Pentastar Alignment, the Torpedo Sphere for the Imperial Remnant, and an as-yet undisclosed new capital ship for the Empire of the Hand (the first of three additional capital ships which they'll be getting 1.0 and 1.1). The Empire of the Hand one is the final part of the mod we're still working on for this release. I'm going to be out of town and therefore not have access to certain necessary programs to finish it off until the 19th, but the release shouldn't be too long after that.

The Lucrehulk will serve as a generalist utility capital ship, replacing the ISDI as their starting ship. With less firepower but more defensive capabilities, as well as some economic impact (via Embargo), it should serve to tone down the PA's early game where the Gladiator tends to reign supreme, without hurting them later. We'll keep an eye on how all of this breaks in this version for potential changes in 1.1, but we're fairly happy with where that is now.The Torpedo Sphere is a large, siege-oriented capital ship with limited anti-ship abilities or weapons. They saw some use from Warlords in the post-Endor period, perhaps most notably at the Battle of Tralus when Grand Admiral Grunger rammed the Executor-class Aggressor into one.

Rather than just provide screenshots of these three new ships, Corey has been doing individual Let's Test series on his personal youtube channel and stream to preview the new changes. Keep in mind the questions he answers in those videos are fairly off the cuff and with beta footage, so they're not always 100% representative of the final result.

Here is the first Lucrehulk preview video, the Torpedo Sphere ones should be going up this week:

The Torpedo sphere is actually getting some recognition? Neat. Sad to hear it won't be the Tector like it sounded it was originally going to be (I love me some grey triangles) but it's always great to see some more unique designs and lesser known ships being thrown in.

Any general idea on what/how many of those remodels/re-textures that have been talked about are going to make it into the next release?

Yeah, with the Tector we pretty much decided it's a worse Allegiance. There's enough grey triangles, and the Torpedo Sphere is not only a unique design, it's also a unique role.

As for remodels, I think it's just the Bellator for this particular update.

When is stardock going to get off their butts and release the final v1.83? There's been no news whatsoever from them for months now...

Hey while I was playing as the Hand of Thrawn I noticed that there lake of a titan made the faction feel incomplete. I feel that a support oriented titan with less armor and weapons but a huge fleet support ability's would fit perfectly into the EoH fleet.

A modified Outbound Flight with bu'dir'rec (can't remember how to spell that) instead of dreadnoughts surrounding the core. Starting with low armor and maybe one or two fighter slots but high health you could use the defense and offense boosting upgrades to bring its armor and weapons up to par with an unupgraded titan or give it more fighter slots. It could possess no offensive special abilities but many powerful fleet buffing abilities along with a colonize ability that creates a colony with an already established infrastructure, a powerful feel resupply and repair ability, a command and control ability that buffs friendly ships self repair and fire rate, and for a final ability it could either rapidly replenish the shields of friendly ships or act as a gravity well wide interdictor

With Thrawn's (the character) noted disdain for super ships an outbound flight like Fleet support ship that acts more like a mobile starbase than a front line super flagship would better fit the EoH than an SSD type vessel and adhere more closely to Thrawns military doctrine.

P.S. would anyone know a better place to post this suggestion to get it noticed such as a different forum or comments section?

I would argue that the fact that they only have 3 of their planned 6 capital ships and none of their starbases makes them feel incomplete, as opposed to the lack of a titan.

As far as a more visible place to post or discuss suggestions than news posts: Thrawnsrevenge.com

Thank you and yes I agree, their lack of starbases and capital ships does make them feel incomplete but, I only really thought out a possible solution for the titan.

I remember this being discussed in one of the articles but I can't remember how to restore fighter craft.
