Post news Report RSS Battlegroup42 1.6 Preview - New Tanks

Albeit everyone´s talking about crisis - the Battlegroup42 team is beginning the new year with good news. In the short time which has passed since the release of 1.5 and 1.51 we´ve already amassed so much new material that it can´t be packed into a patch. So look forward to a new full release which is planned to be released somewhere in springtime.

Many new models for version 1.6 originate in Battlegroup:Frontlines. After the unfortunate end of our sister mod we were able to rescue quite a big amount of material and convert it for BG42. That way we have the possibility to replace some of our older models and some DICE models with new, superbly modelled vehicles. One of them is the Tiger E from Koricus, which was converted and coded for BG42 by Sarge31FR. Additional skins for different theatres were done by Sarge Surfat. As of now, BG42 is the only BF42 mod featuring a completely new Tiger model, and we´re somewhat proud about that.

There´s no need to tell you much about the well known and most famous German tank of World War 2. Although already obsolete regarding its shape when it first appeared in autumn of 1942, the Tiger´s thick armour and mighty 88mm gun made it a feared opponent for the Allies, especially on the Western Front where this 56 tons behemoth didn´t have a worthy opponent on the ground until close before the war´s end.

The second new model which we are presenting today is the soviet light tank T-26. This tank, which was also modelled by Koricus, closes a real gap on our early Eastern Front maps, since the T-26 was one of the most numerous soviet tanks in the first year of the war on the Eastern Front. It was coded by Sarge31FR and got new skins from Sarge Surfat.

The T-26 was a development of the 1930s, based on the British Vickers 6-ton tank. It was tested successfully during the Spanish Civil War as well as during the Soviet-Japanese Border War but was completely obsolete at the beginning of the German invasion of Russia in summer of 1941. Although its 45mm gun still posed a threat to the German tanks of that time, the armour of this 9 ton tank was much too thin with a maximum of only 25mm. Nonetheless it was thrown into battle and sacrificed in order to give the Red Army and the soviet industry the desperately needed time to reorganise and relocate the industry further into the eastern homeland.

This concludes our news for today, but we will inform you on a regular basis in the coming weeks about more new content in the upcoming next version of Battlegroup42. So stay tuned and visit our website regularly for news. Our forum offers enough space for discussions and suggestions. New team members are also welcome.
