An Open Window: Status Update
Personally I hate it when projects just vanish off the face of the earth without any trace. It seems only fair to the over 200 people following this MOD to inform them of the current state of affairs.

As you might remember from my last news post, I moved abroad. Without going into details; things didn't work out as I had planned or hoped and therefore I am back home now. As soon as I came home I just wanted to leave everything behind me and start doing new things and so I also left this project behind.

Up until now I haven't had the proper motivation to start writing articles again or even open the Source SDK. Slowly, I'm starting to feel like mapping again and writing this status update is another step in the right direction. Normally I would just get on with it, but that doesn't seem to work with a project like this.

Right now, I should start reading up on all the status updates I've been missing out on. I hope I can entertain you all, and myself, with new articles soon. To stay in style, I will end with the QotD. Thank you for reading!

Question of the Day:
What do you do when motivation is at an all time low?

When I'm feeling very un-motivated, I usually look for inspiration in things around me. Once, when I was stuck on ideas for a portal map, I started playing some other video games, and seeing what ideas were applicable to a portal map. That's how I got Indirect Actuality:

I feel ya, as a person who has been in 3 mods that have died from lack of motivation. I think when the upgraded Source SDK comes out, if it's good, it will be a huge motivation booster for modders everywhere. I'm planning to re-open development on my mod when Valve releases the new SDK.

GLAD TO HEAR IT!

Answer: I sit, and think or pace and think. That's usually the key to making me wanna work.

When I lack motivation in modding, I would just play another mod - a finished one at that, Usually this will motivate me to continue another time, but usually during the night of the same day.

In other matters, looking at other people do what i was striving to do usually helps in motivating.

When i lack motivation - i have with Modinformer before (for a day or so) - i think of why I'm doing it, and how it benefits others. I have to think, yeah, those 200 or so subscribers subscribed because they like what im doing, so i should keep doing it.

I usually spend some time with my buddies cutting wood, or playing some games, and basically ignore the computer for awhile while I think things through and reassess my situation, then I slowly ease into it, with a goal in mind, and keep setting new ones, and just go from goal to goal...

I hope everything works out man.

Don't even start with modding/mapping, as it has a very bad influence on my future motivation. This comes because I would be forcing myself to mod/map and it would be more of a punishment.

Well.. I usually listen to music I otherwise wouldn't. Something a bit more calm or when i'm really depressed I listen to Evanescence (Lithium makes me feel happy, don't ask why, I have no idea), or I just try watching a movie or series (Movie... hmm... well no idea of a cool new one, but series, I watch How I Met Your Mother, it is epic!).

Well i'm always depressed, so I just do this all the day. And play games of course.

making mods is just not fun ALL the time, there are days that you don't feel it anymore. we all know those moments as modders/mappers.

personally when i am stuck on a map i start doing other things that needs to be done for the mod, or just start with another map in the same mod, that i know if that i will like doing.

taking to much time off of a mod is not that good because then there is a huge change that you will not complete the mod.

modding is just not fun all the time, i can easily say that about 25% of all my modding time feels like work (unpaid, lol).
it's that, or no mod at all.
