Other than the usual multitude of bug fixes, balance tweaks and what not, A Clash of Kings 1.4 will contain many exciting new features!
A big one is the complete overhaul of recruitment, especially recruitment in Essos. The Free Cities have always been a bit of a sidetrack when it comes to the modification. When I originally began development back in 2011, A Dance with Dragons, the fifth book in the series, had not yet been released, and as such, there was no way to know what the continent of Essos looked like. I created the original map with a fan-made map, that showed a very different Essos. For those interested, here's a link: 4.bp.blogspot.com
Anyhow, there was not much information about any of the Free Cities either, except for Braavos and Pentos, but I added the Free Cities anyway, hoping that I'd be able to patch together something different from the way the Westerosi factions worked. I haven't been able to do that yet - the Free Cities in 1.31 is pretty much also feudal societies, and unless Bannerlord allows factions to have a republican government, I might just not add the Free Cities once I begin work on ACOK II.
But I regress. In 1.4, the Free Cities will receive a massive overhaul. First of all, I've added Qohor, the remaining Free City, garrisoned completely by Unsullied. I've also added custom garrisons to the Free Cities, making them much harder to conquer, to simulate the fact that these cities are the capitals of ALL the nobility and almost all of them larger than King's Landing.
Another new feature is the removal of the native recruitment system, but only in the Free Cities. Westeros retains the native recruitment system, but the troop trees have been tweaked to make the progression paths more logical, and a bit more exciting, and I've also added custom troop recruitment in various locations, such as the White Harbor Knights in White Harbor.
The big "new thing" in regards to Essosi recruitment is the players inability to recruit from villages and castles, and instead being able to only recruit from the capitals - Volantis, Braavos, Pentos etc. However, recruiting from the capitals is a much easier way to build a large army, fast, due to the recruitment of sellswords. The player has the options to recruit either Westerosi or Essosi "lances" - minor sellsword companies of 20 men. You can currently recruit 6 of each from each of the cities, and that's it - sellswords are not an infinite resource. However, if you have the required coin and the required space in your party, you can also attempt to recruit one of the sellsword companies, such as the Bright Banners of the Windblown. Some of the companies will be available right away, and some will have to be unlocked through quests - The Windblown can only be recruited after you've completed the quest "Old Tatters and Bloodbeard".
The above also means that all the Free Cities will share the same troop tree, but you'll be able to recruit some unique troops from each of the cities, such as Myrish Crossbowmen in Myr, Cataphracts in Norvos etc.
1.4 will obviously contain many more features - The Iron Bank of Braavos being one, but those will be revealed in a future preview or changelog.
Wow! Sounds very exciting :D
Will the 6 ever replenish, or if you go through all the sellswords, are you screwed out of luck?
Cant wait. Love this mod, I think its my most played W&B mod
Edit: Stupid question...but you mention the map being very different. Will you fix that in a future release of ACOK, or is that saved for the future release of Bannerlord? :(
Erh, what map?
It is already fixed. He refered to the map as it was during the first releases.
Ahh I misunderstood that statement. My version version was 1.1 :P
Keep up the good work :)
Pretty cool to hire known mercenaries companies !
Hey,cant wait for the release, now my questions.
Will the option to recolor factions be back, as it is vital too have, also will it be a tad bit cheeper having an army?
ACOK II?? Youtube.com
Nice read, really looking forward to this one.
Will One Handed/Two Handed swords like the bastard one ever be added? I can't find one in 1.31.
Sounds great! Cozur you are a very committed and ambitious modder. Tip of the hat to you good sir.

Will we finally being able to kill the Lords ?? :( I want to kill that bastar of Tywin Lannister..
I wouldn't worry about that.
Will Castle Black be a solid location? Like go over there and visit but not able to be attacked or sieged unless with Free folk? That would be nice.
hey i really love this mod :D but why havent you made a longsword there is
a one-handed and a two-handed ?
Thanks cozur! when do you think 1.4 will be realeased? it will be always a stand-alone version, or a patch?
It is always stand alone. You'll need to make a new character.
Can't wait, hope it comes out soon :)
hey mate, loving this mod..keep up the good work...just wondering though if we are able to persuade other lords to join my faction (targaryen) if we are vassals to them in this next version?
thanks :)
You can, even in 1.31, but it really isn't easy.
Great mod man, really the only one I play.If you dont mind me saying though,I think adding the fort option that is in Brytenwalda would be nice.Im sure a great majority of us play mercs and a kind of permanent fort would be nice to put men if you just wanted to have cav or just infantry or just archers while out and about. It seems more merc like.Thats just my 2 cents though.Great mod either way.
I think that a really cool option would be the ability to sell prisoners to the Night's Watch. I think that a lot of people like the roleplaying aspect to the game. And, of course, selling people into slavery is looked down upon in Westeros, so one does not have many options for dealing with prisoners aside from selling them into slavery, or recruiting them.
Then again, I don't think the Night's Watch is in the habit of buying their recruits, so maybe players would gain Honour instead of gold. Or have a refuse payment option for honour instead of gold. Just a thought. I really have no idea how much work would go into this so it may be more trouble than it is worth, who knows?
Will you expand the map to cover the dothraki sea and slavers bay as well? or is that too much to ask for?
You're doing an awesome job and this is the best mod i have ever used in any game ever. :)

will you maybe ,in a future version er ACOK II, include a sort of warden function?(like warden of the north,vale,dorne,reach,...)
then we can finally capture this huge as map and rule it without having every lord hating me, if we could name a man to rule a part of my faction in my name we would only have to keep him happy and the other rulers(in my name) happy and the huge map would be conquerable(is it a word?).
btw,if you dont include this it doesnt matter, the mod is INCREDIBLE without it! i just RPG myself a warden of the middle map in the name of the targaryans wich i grant all of westeros by conquer :)
1.4 will be amazig since i spend a lot of time in essos early on in the game. keep up the good work!!!
I cannot wait until 1.4!! I really love this mod!

Hello,
Just wondering how hiring lances work? I've hired several captains of companies, then when I go to either the camp or the nearby town to pick up the men, I can't find any option to do so (recruit doesn't work).
