Over on the BWL Group page, we have a selection of news items including some news about Cat-Life. BWL Video Update and From The Chat Room episode 1 are both also discussed.

Okay folks, earlier today I posted some fairly large news items on the BWL Group page. I posted the first "BWL Video Update" and the first "From The Chat Room" segment.

It's a hefty post and much of the news is related to our machinima projects and other project news. Around half of the news, part of video update, and half of from the chat room are about our plans for Cat-Life.

Keep in mind, the news post is largely just a repeat of what we discussed in the video update and in from the chat room. So you really only need to watch and listen to those.

And for those not interested in following that link, here is an even shorter summary.

In short, we have announced something I have been discussing for a little while now. We are going to release Cat-Life when the maps are finished. After that, there could be a code update, but that would be all.

Development on Cat-Life is ending to make room for Cat-Life for Source. I'm taking the lead on that project and we have kenners working on the earliest part of the source code now. And I have started planning everything out and writing the story.

Even so, we won't be updating that project much until after the original Cat-Life is released. CLS, for anyone that didn't know, is a complete reboot of the mod using the Source engine and a much bigger concept.

You said Cat-Life will be source... Then, will that mean it will be a Half-life: SOURCE Mod? I believe it would be too hard to make it a half-life 2 mod and the place is in blackmesa. Unless... You Don't add any bullsquids, houndeyes, tentecles, alien grunts, alien slaves, human assassins, human grunts, scientists, and all the rest of the people and aliens in hl1 and all the textures... well, they COULD be hl1, but it would take a lot of porting. So... Ya you saw what you just read. UNLESS... the source mod is half-life 2 and its in CITY 17!

Cat-Life 2 will be in City 17. And what I said was "reboot of the mod using the Source engine"... there is a distinction between the original Cat-Life and CLS. Both will be released.

CLS is a much bigger project and I'm expecting it to take some significant effort to build as I want more then just ports of models and code. I want newer and better models and code. CLS is going back to the drawing board and starting with a much cleaner set of resources.

As far as the monsters and other entities go, we are looking at porting the Half-Life: Source code over, but we'll be adding to that too.

I have no delusions about how much work this will be. That's one of the primary reasons we'll be releasing the original mod first.

Make no mistake, CLS will be a better mod by leaps and bounds.

Switching to Source? Did you learn nothing from what happened to Half-Life: Nightwatch?

People have no right to be angry about the engine switch. Most of the people who work still work on GoldSource hoard their source code & content instead of helping out their fellow modders.
