the ability has been tweaked a bit since then - it charges up longer and those beams remain visible for shorter time, so it´s more like "chaaarge-boom-they´re all dead" rather than "charge-boom-still boom?-oh, it´s already finished, nice"...

You can attach scripts to upgrades.
Allow your ship to construct dummy upgrades(just like starbases) with a script attached to them and activate the ability through the script. Not optimal but it works.

One idea, add it as a third ability (won't be visible on the UI, due to limitations of slots), which auto-fires (if I remember things right from my modding days, you can decide if a ability is auto- or user-fired, you only need a skript for that ability for the ship-AI to decide when to use it, maybe similar to the point defense ability)

Or you could also ask someone from the Phoenix Rising crew, they have around 4-6 Abilities per (hero-)ship. And all of them are working...

PR is a great mod, but I have probably missed this aspect then, since I remember only 3 abilities per ship with the last (unusable manually) fired via autofire (+appropriate script). do you remember on which unit did you see it?

For example the Chimera has it. (not shure though, if it is Pellaeon's or Daala's unit upgrade) She has cloak, concentrate fire, energy to weapons, tractor beam and something else I cannot remember. They added the abilities in a certain way, so concentrate fire and Cloak are visible and usable via the player.

And I they said they are going to rework that in 1.3 (which is in Beta at the moment), just have a look at their forums.

Usable by the player is hard, cause you would need to change the UI, the only mod which achived that I know of is Nomada's Alliance with the ship class filter.

if it was about the UI.. this is hardcode restriction according to my experience. I´ve added these brackets for third ability (tried it with space building in GC too), and the window was there, but the ability didn´t connect to it (even though it was coded exactly as the first 2 windows). but thanks for that, will take a look on it ;)

but pls make the fighters realisticly small... make them tiny like in legacy era or old republic at war .... in my opinion it looks so terrible when the fighters are as big as in the orginial game

We promised you 2 videos demonstrating the Tsam P´ah´s abilities Moddb.com. It has been a while, but here is the first one: Defensive Beams.

It´s an anti-fighter/bomber/gunship defensive mechanism, which launches cylinders of plasma covering moderate area around the ship. It has a slight charge/launch time, so time it carefully though.

We consider using it as a third ability, so it would need to be fired automatically/via script. If anyone has managed to add a third ability usable by the player, please share your knowledge with us! We can offer some super-dark secrects in exchange ;)
