Miid Ro´ik Deploy Shield Ability Demonstration video - Vong Invaders Expansion mod for Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption
This mod aims to bring the extra-galactic race of Yuuzhan Vong into SW: FoC as a playable 4th faction. Original factions will receive new units to fight these invaders.

As you can see, ship´s Dovin Basals shape an expanding shield absorbing all projectiles caught within its vicinity. Presently, it is limited only by (rather long) time, but it will probably be nerfed in the future for the sake of balance, since now it makes the ship practically invulnerable/unreachable, which combined with its destructive power creates a far more serious threat than Millenium Falcon flying around with its shield... And you can actually even shelter allied units of smaller size into the shield, although the game isn´t really good in terms of positioning ships close to each other... On the other hand, Nomada discovered a trick which might be helpful in such situations.
So that´s for now, next video will display the ability of another special variant of Miid Ro´ik, so stay tuned ;)

Couldn't you actually place a line of these in front of your fleet to absorb most enemy shots? Your own ships don't even need to be inside the shield as long as the shield is between them and the enemy ships.
